Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

    Thank you, Andrew!
Sorry, but I don't have a Stirling brush. Compared to my SOC badger, the SOC has more. I have a Parker silvertip with very little backbone. I'm not a backbone junkie, I enjoy all my badger and boar brushes.

I feel for you guys. I retired 18 months ago, and I still occasionally dream about stressful days at work. It is getting better, though. The work thing really gets etched into your mind. Rest well tonight, gents.

    July 5

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Soap - Oleo Soapworks El Caballero
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

I did an early afternoon head shave today just to get it out of the way. With a two week growth I grabbed my Kai pain stick and Kai Captain Original blade. There is no better way to clear two weeks than with a pain stick. Took it nice and easy and got down to cue ball status with no blood or other problems. Always fun to do a pain stick head shave. Don't know why more don't try it!

For the regular shave tonight I stayed with the Fatip and Kai blade. Went for the El Caballero soap which is definitely growing on me with each use. Very nice and spicy scent and the slickness is there. Two passes and some touch up keeping a light touch on the razor and my mind in the game and another baby showed up without incident. Alum was mostly quiet so it was a great shave. I'll be hitting the mean streets in a little bit and I look good for all those hot (?) drunk chicks who need a ride home from the bar. You can never look good enough for fall down drunks. Have a great night!

Fresh off the stones for refresh my pimp stick Revisor was smooth and sharp. Everything seemed right but a tickle from the alum and I was just short of BBS. Not what I expected. This brush is starting to break in nicely but it still needs some work.

Great! Barely started the month and I am already 30 pages behind...

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Nacet (2 and 3)
    Simpsons CH2 Synthetic brush
    Fendrihan Lavender Sandalwood soap sample
Alum and Clubman VIBR (Wed) / Florida Water (Thurs)

I think I will stick with this setup for awhile and see how long it takes to use up this soap, especially with the Soap Destroyer on the job.

Did two passes to a DFS on Wednesday and one quick pass to a CCS on Thursday. Both days the brush whipped up a nice lather from the soap. The scent is quite light so almost any postshave splash or balm works without a noticeable clash. I enjoyed both the Bay Rum and the Florida Water finishes.

Congrats on the great looking brush.

Thanks for taking the time to post the travel photos. Very enjoyable way to start the day.

The soap should be gone soon with the Soap Destroyer on the job.

Great shave today. Smooth all over with only a few raspy patches. I've adjusted the direction on my neck to go XTG and followed the advice of skin stretching, it's amazing just how flat you can make your neck. My Adams Apple stubble is slowly also shrinking daily as my technique improves. I did change the blade, which I think was also part of yesterday's problem. I'm also finding a wetter lather suits me better.

Does anyone switch hands when using a DE? I ask as I realise that trying to stretch your skin on the opposite side to the hand you hold the razor in is more problematic. It would be easier to hold the razor in the same hand as the side of your face you are shaving. If that makes sense?

Because not all of us have your technique nor are willing to risk shedding major blood in the hopes of honing one. Shaving is fun. I want it to be a relaxing, special "me time". I am going to stick with equipment that gives me the most enhanced experience---with the minimum amount of risk. I will, however, continue to enjoy reading the escapades of you Evel Knievel types here at TSD. :eatdrink013:

Knock out punch! Great shaves Neal!

Man that's a nice pimp stick!

My off hand is useless for holding a sharp instrument. Even with a straight I don't switch hands. Also yes on the wetter lather. This video hasn't been posted in a while but is perhaps the best lather video out there. This is what I refer to as super goop in my posts:

You are making really good progress. The results are already improving. Just keep focused on the technique and the results will follow. I too prefer a wetter lather. I have never felt the need to switch hands with a DE though some do.

Wow! What an incredible photo, Jim! You have developed your own style, and I love it.
The brush looks amazing - especially for $25. You are enabling...you realize that, right? ;)
