    NCoxSTL AAACK!

No details at all for future events but.....

There was a quick discussion as the BBQ broke up about future meetups. I think the consensus would be that we'd love to do this again. And probably again. And again. The consensus is also that we need to start planning next year in about a month. Putting this together in the time frame we did this time was, how should I put it, challenging. I learned a lot about trying to get an event like this on the books and also how far ahead things are planned in the world of social events, sports, business, and every other human endeavor, apparently. I can't tell you the number of calls and emails I made to hotels and meeting sites that were positive, seemed workable, then somehow disappeared because of already booked events or the lack of a firm number of attendees or potential profit to be honest. By starting earlier we can get some of the framework set then work to fill it. I think that's the best and smartest move.

Just a quick story to show how these things work.....Hendrick's BBQ, which was quite excellent - responded to my first inquiry with an eager "yes we can host you and have a private area available". Please email this other person and they'll set you right up. Perfect! I sent the email. Waited a couple of days. Email finally replied to with "how many are you having?" My answer was a confident "ummmmm....say between 15 and 30? Still herding the cats so we don't have them quite lined up yet. Waited a couple of days. Email reply - "that will be fine and we are sending out the rental agreement on the room along with all of the details. Please note the $250 deposit as well as the $600 minimum purchase for the group.? Wait, what? Email back - so, if we only have closer to 10 we have to spend $60 each?! Well sure, they said, but the bar tab counts as well. Perfect! We all just have to get as drunk as Ivan and Igor AND eat two racks apiece and all will be well. Yep, not gonna happen.

Long story just a bit longer - I clearly didn't reserve that room and continued the search for a workable BBQ venue/event. I even considered catering to an outdoor location (which, given the heat we had over the weekend would have been a really bad idea) and revisited some other options. As we entered the final 10 days or so, though, the count stabilized to around 10 to 12 and I called Hendrick's as though I had never talked to them and just made a reservation for a table for 12. Voila! BBQ set. And for those inquiring minds who want to know the numbers - yeah, we spent less than half of that $600 minimum they were trying to get.

Another great photo and report Joesph. Wonderful job with the subtle brush enabling. ;)

Great photo and lineup Jim. I know you're happy to have reinforcements arriving. Young kids can certainly wear you out.

Wonderful photo Jim. Again with that brush and its enabling ability. ;)

    OneBlade Genesis V2
    Modified GEM PTFE
    Thäter Boar
    Nuàvia Blu

I decided to mix things up and change out the Feather FHS blades for a modified GEM PTFE blade. The blades are modified by removing the spine and enlarging the two semi-circular cutouts on the Gem Blade. The entire process takes about 30 seconds to complete. I usually do several at a time. I soaked the boar brush and the soap while I showered. The big boar made a wonderful rich slick lather with the Blu scent filling the room. I went with a traditional three pass shave. With buffing along my neck and touch ups along my jawline I easily ended up with a drama free BBS shave. Overall an Epic Shave. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

I would love to be in, if it happens again. My wife even said she would come along, which surprised me a bit, considering she has always been completely ambivalent towards pretty much every aspect of my involvement.

Or, you could all come to MN. I could line up guided fishing, smuggle in a pickup load of New Glarus beers out of Wis., (Google Spotted Cow beer controversy) and you can all douse yourself in Electric Sheep AS to ward off skeeters.

Do you get more comfortable shave from a Gem blade when using the One Blade than a vintage SE razor?

Dont worry Ferdinand, I think you can buy Imelda a pair or two of shoes yet.

    An awesome Old School shave.

    Moms are easily under-appreciated.

I remember fifteen to twenty years ago, working out in the ND and MT oil fields, anywhere from 70-100 hours a week, whenever it would come up, saying that my stay at home wife had a much harder job being home alone and raising two little ones. While going back for more school in her “spare time” My wife is a saint.

Another fantastic pic. How do you find the scent strength on the Satsuma?

Thank you Jim. So far I my will power is holding for the Paladin release.

Lord yes. The OneBlade is my best Gem Razor by far. :D I don't like the Gem blades as well as the Feather FHS blades. However, the Feather is done in 2-3 shaves and costs bunch more to use. The Gem blades really shine in costs and longevity.

I decided to shave with one of my recent acquisitions this morning. It is an NOS Wapienica razor that just had the packing grease removed. I stropped it up and had a surprisingly good two pass shave. This might become my new travel razor.

Not a bad shave for a factory edge.

I'm curious....if you were shaving your face, how did the razor bite you in the.....oh!! Oh!! You didn't mean literally? Here I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, you were so confident in your skills with the R41 that you decided to manscape with it. :D Maybe keep that in mind for MAYhem. That's a surefire win. At least in forum points.

Great report and photo, Joseph! And, very nice description of the Semogue brush. Sounds very tempting...

    SOTD for July 15, 2018

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill aftershave

Fun to read the reports of the 30DC meet-up. Glad it was a success! Let's toss around ideas for next year soon. Since @NCoxSTL is Bama fan and @Bama Samurai and @Keithmax both grew up in Alabama, we could meet here. Great food down here and plenty of places to meet. I like the Minnesota idea from @PickledNorthern as well.

Today's shave was excellent. One pass and done. No need for a super close shave today and the Featherweight worked quite well. We're trying to coordinate a Featherweight week over in the Injector and SE Party thread. So I might be using it all week. Regardless, excellent shave today.

    Enjoy your day!

Very pleased with my shave this morning. The Stoylin li'l brudder brush was in perfect concert with the Razorock Aqua soap. Clubman Gent's Gin A.S. finished me off to my great satisfaction. That Gent's Gin, I think, will be a nice match to the Razorock XXX Lime Burst Soap, too.
