July Focus Must stay focussed, must stay focussed... 20 days into July and shaving with the focus gear has become somewhat mundane. There, I said it. For me, the choosing of what to use is part of the fun in this hobby. While there is no question that using a product 30 (31, 28/29) days in a row is helpful solidifying a technique, and I readily admit, this month has been incredibly beneficial for me and the 2011 Mühle R41, I am ready for something new. Rant over, shave comments: Some soap fairy is replenishing my Tallow Williams during the dark hours. Just enough so that it seems to never end. With that in mind, I grab my Mondial (ABC) Boar and load while listening to the extended version of Light my Fire. I opened my upstairs window and offered to shave a couple of passers by---so much lather had I created. They politely declined. Yes, is was the consistency of butter cream---until I added more water. The Personna blade was Tapfer (brave) throughout the three passes, but afterwards, was relegated to the blade bank, where used blades go to spend eternity. No issues, no nicks, no cuts, no irritation. Finished with a splash of Thayer's Medicated Witch Hazel, followed by, the again, nightly replenished by a fairy, Floïd.
I've been having fun with the challenge of matching my new soaps(thanks to the PIF from @SHAVEWIZARD420) with current aftershaves. Thus far, I have Clubman Special Reserve matched with Regiment: Reveille. (Course the Clubman could be matched well with some others I plan to buy in 2019). My Avon 4Men Maxwell'23 Tribute A.S. could go with the Deluxe British Racing Green.. Here's where I REALLY put on my "Mad Shaving Scientist" hat. More work to be done!
Wonderful picture, Clint! Are your nature photos taken in your yard? They are just beautiful! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Thank you Jim. Yes all my outdoor photos are taken in my lawn. I have a very shaded lot that tends to grow much more moss than grass.
It is so frustrating to finish up the last bit of shave soaps. Like you I swear there is a soap fairy foiling my attempts. Great report and photo as usual.
The challenge with the B&M special releases is that there are no samples available. Fortunately, they are pretty easy to sell if you get something like the Lavanille and realize it smells like vanilla-ee-rotting garbage. I've realized in the last month or so that its important to look at multiple releases by a soap maker. I have a couple that I really like the blends they come up with, like Jeeves of Hudson Street. I have others, like Black Ship Grooming Co., where I have purchased five scents to find one I like. BSGC blends scents that mostly aren't to my liking, Jeeves for the most part is. B&M scents are 50/50 for me. Their Seville, Sinfonia, and 42 are amazing. Others I have flat out hated, to the point where I wouldn't even put it on my face to see if there was a part of it I liked.
I ended up sadly tossing my Local Gent Shaving Co. Fields&Streams, when I got to the point where, in my judgement, I couldn't get enough soap onto the brush anymore. Like I've said, though, LG will be hearing from me again, though-possibly even for another Fields&Streams, but I might also try Cigar Lounge.
Ha ha. I proudly told my wife I had re-homed two soap and splash sets at the meet up, and was about to finish another soap so my soap collection was getting smaller. Of course I ended up with four new full sized tubs of soap at the meet up, and another 2 oz sample sized one, so the den didn't actually get reduced...
Excellent post, Joseph! Those product replenishment fairy's can be rather troublesome! Thank you, Jim!
Were I to end up in Colorado, I could easily return to being a Bronco fan. (I mean, I guess I always have been one, but this time they'd be my home team. )
