July 21, 2018 Karve D Plate Feather Thäter 4125/3 C&E West Indian Lime Myrsol Limon A fantastic shave to start the weekend. The Thäter is such a luxurious brush which makes face lathering a true joy. @Drygulch I finished Crabtree & Evelyn West Indian Lime shave cream today. While I have enjoyed the cream and appreciated the thoughtfulness of the gift, I will not be buying a replacement. Since I had time, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave and decided to chase the baby with a 4th pass on my lower right neck. Overall an Epic shave with no drama or irritation. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.
Catch up post. A while back I got a cheap Fatboy as a parts razor. The coating don’t set properly, and it was missing the retaining clip. Apparently those clips are impossible to get. So I asked @twhite if he would be interested in trying to make one. He not only made a new one and a spare out of brass, he fixed the c clip that was bent inside the razor. From a few feet away, this razor looks awesome. It opens and adjusts, but isn’t that smooth doing so. When you lock a blade in and go to work, it works just fine. I’m dubbing this my Beater Fatboy, (BFB.) It’s like my beater truck, it’s not perfect but will get the job done. First shave at 7, second shave at 8. The head design on the 195 allows less blade chatter at high settings than the same setting on the Toggle. And I finally killed off the B&M 42. God performance, and a not bad scent. I won’t be replacing this tub though. If anyone has the 42 soap and now splash, let me know. I have a half bottle of the splash I would like to give to someone who can use it.
Terrific black and white photo, Clint! Enjoy your weekend! Nice post, Adam! I am constantly amazed at the talents of @twhite.
July Focus Been there, done that, don't have the T-shirt however. Buttercream anyone? @wchnu ? A man walked into a bar... Take my wife, please... There was a young girl from Nantucket... Oh, wait, this is a shaving forum, I don't seem to be focussed. The Williams is biting the dust. Won't make it to the 31st. The ring is breaking apart and will have to be reloaded into my Aesop SS Bowl tomorrow. The brush today was my lone synthetic, a second generation Simpson CH2. Usually, this brush resides in a large medicine bottle, with holes drilled in the top and bottom for travel, but, because I am looking to make my daily shaves more interesting, I grabbed it. It is a really nice brush, no arguing that fact. So here's the most interesting part of today's shave. You see that big, green Personna Double Edge II dispenser? It was part of a vintage lot of razor blades I picked up a while back on eBay. Today, I thought I would give one a try. Those familiar with older dispensers such as this will have experienced difficulty getting a blade out. Today was no different. Pried and pulled until a couple of stuck-together (or so I thought) blades came out. So I began to separate the blades. Man were they ever stuck together. I had to pry them apart. I did and then took a closer look at the blades. Low and behold, there was a "top" blade and a "bottom" blade that were INTENDED to be together. One side said "top, away from handle" and the other said "bottom, towards handle" Ugh, I had just mistakenly pulled apart 4 blades...now 8. (Anyone out there ever had experience with these blades?) I decided to insert a pair into my razor, after cleaning them off with 92% alcohol, of course orienting them according to the labels. Jammed the remaining 6 (3 pair) back into the dispenser, which is why they look so cock-eyed in the picture. Proceeded to bloom my Williams, soak my brush, YES, I know it's a synthetic, I do it anyway. It's my shave and jump in the shower. Whipped up a glorious lather with the on its last leg soap. I asked my wife if the lather looked like Buttercream Fuzzy and she said "no, it looks like whipped cream" Prepared to immediately abandon and chunk, chuck, bin, trash the blade(s) and the rest of the dispenser at the FIRST sign of trouble, I went to work. Well, sonofagun. Great shave. No issues. BBS in 3. More Floïd, which too won't last until the 31st. Oh well. My focus will end when these products are gone.
I just got back from having blood taken at LabCorp. There were two technicians working the intake- one was a redhead of decent chunkiness, the other was a tatted Tabac calendar girl. Guess which one I got.
Thanks, Clint. I was letting it patina to start with. It was getting darker in a few spots. I lost patience. I wipe it down every now and then with a Cape Cod cloth. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Awesome picture, Jim! How is the Boomtown? I have some of the AS coming. How does it compare to Atomic Age?
July 21 SOTD: Razor: Gillette '41 Ranger Tech Razor: Gillette Red Tip Blade: Polsilver Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket Lather: PAA Atmotic Aftershave: PAA Atmotic Additional Care: Stirling Unscented PSB I decided to repeat yesterday's comparison, and the results are the same. The Ranger Tech has a bit more blade feel and the Red Tip is possibly a bit smoother. It is hard for my to pick a preference, but I would probably go with the Ranger Tech by a bit. The scent of this soap has really grown on me, and the lather was about perfect. A really great shave overall all this morning. I hope everyone has a great day!
