Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

  1. I just bought a new tub of it. I’ll take the splash, but am more than happy to pay shipping.

Shave at the lake today. Nice 2 passer earlier today. Took the pic on the bottom shelf of a bbq gazebo I built a few weeks ago. My wife surprised me with a custom sign for it as a Father’s Day/ B Day gift. I like it.

  3. Three weeks in on my Straight Razor Apprenticeship.

No bloody mishaps to speak of, but a careless blade touch will open things up. Felt like I did it, but it took a while to bleed. Closed up easily.

    Stropping is improving.

Moved up to 2 passes when I allow myself time. Continue to finish with other equipment.

Had plenty of time today, so I went for 3 passes. Not bad, but still not satisfied enough to bag the clean up.

Blade seems to glide more on subsequent passes. Alum talks, but doesn't scream.

Noticed my control razor is still very keen. The training workhorse, less so. Still smooth though.

Maybe I'll have this by fall. All good.

  4. Great photo again! What are Mike High Nationals, Jim?
Love that brush, Clint! That razor is just a matter of time for me...
Awesome to get that razor rolling again, Adam.
Never seen blades like that before, Joseph. Twin Injectors, yes, but not twin DEs. Btw, Why do you soak a Synthetic? Another great write up, nonetheless.
Great photo and report, Jim. Sounds like you can’t go wrong with either razor.
  5. Enjoy your weekend at the lake! Happy Birthday, Jason.
  6. Congrats! You're making great progress!
  7. Great looking shave Jason. Love the sign.

Thank you Jason. The Karve is really a great razor. Plus it is made in Canada which should make shipping much easier and cheaper.
  8. Thanks Jason. I soak it because it's a habit. No real reason other than that.
  9. Thanks, Jim!

To my nose the Atomic Age is a brighter, sweeter bay rum. The Boomtown is brighter and sweeter than Captain Smythe's Reserve.

  13. Thank you, Jason!
The Mile High Nationals is an NHRA drag racing event. We lasted about 5 hours before we called it.

  14. Thanks, Clint. I’m getting the Karve. It checks a lot of boxes for me, the fact that it is a quality product made in Canada is chief amongst them.
  15. SOTD for July 21, 2018

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: vintage Personna twin
    Razor: Schick L1 injector
Brush: Restored Ever Ready 200T badger
    Soap: Soap Commander Vision
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Glacial Spearmint aftershave

Stellar shave overall. Been a while since I used Soap Commander. Was reminded of the superb quality of their soap, particularly the post shave feel. Great products made by nice folks. The twin blade in the L1 was effective and amps up the L1 past its mild status. Quite nice all around.

The only strange thing was the after shave. This was the first use of the Glacial Spearmint. I've had no reaction or any problems with a huge variety of after shaves. This spearmint splash went on and immediately felt warm.....really warm, almost hot. It's a glacial so it should be cold after a few seconds. It finally did turn cold as expected but the first few seconds were not all that pleasant. A warm, almost burning feeling. Maybe something in there doesn't agree with me? I'll try it again soon and see what happens.

Otherwise, really a nice shave. Enjoy your weekend!
