    SOTD for July 22, 2018

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: vintage Personna twin
    Razor: Schick L1 injector
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Grapefruit
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Glacial Lemony Orange aftershave

Fine shave after being out with some great students and painting the field for tomorrow's band camp. We'll be outside all day each day next week. It's hot but you keep hydrated with cold water and Gatorade and make it through. This particular group of students looks to be a special unit and I'm looking forward to what we can accomplish.

I'll be shaving in the evenings in the next week so that I'm not slathering tons of sunscreen on a freshly shorn face. The Stirling Grapefruit is the next victim for soap reduction. What a great scent!

    Enjoy your evening.

I finally caught up with you guys. Mostly. I think.

I only shaved a couple of times this week. One midweek:

That’s GlacialLemony Orange, and some really really mentholated Stirling Grapefruit.

    Then again today:

Spent most of my weekend on the water. The fishing wasn’t fantastic either day, but we caught supper both days, and put a couple of meals in the freezer. Peaceful as hell. Spent my afternoon nursing a few beers, and looking at this:

Hope you all have a good next week.

Looks like an awesome weekend, Jared. In northern B.C., especially on the east side of the Rockies, there are lots of Pike, and they are usually found with Walleye/ Pickerel. Same there?

    Thank you.

We have a lot of Pike here also. Basically any water that has Walleye, also has Pike, but not necessarily the other way around.

Figured you had lots of pike, given your user name:happy088:. That’s why I asked...how big do they get there? When I lived up north they averaged 6-8 lbs. Went on a fly in trip to the North West Territories and a buddy of mine yarded out a 21 lb’er from shore. The scary thing was that it had bite marks on it... I always loved eating walleye... Pike, not so much.

Lesson for the next time. Whoever makes the soap - we only let them sell individual sets OR no more than 2 to a customer. Just a knee-jerk reaction there.

July 22 - Shaving like the Fuzzter!

    Razor - Gem Junior LC
    Treet Super Single Edge.jpg (1)
    Soap - Island Hopper
Brush - Stirling Pro Handle Synthetic
    Post - Alum

I was getting ready to box up the LC's @wchnu loaned me and decided they needed one more go around in Missouri. Besides, it's hotter than fire down in the bayou right now and they begged me to let them enjoy the relative cool of 88 degrees for a few more days. How could I resist? Well, if I'm going to go old school with 100 year old razors, starting with the Gem Jr., then I need to do it right. I grabbed the Island Hopper soap that Fuzzy sent, put it in the Marvy Professional rubber mug and grabbed the classic yet nowhere near vintage Stirling brush to go along with it. Ok, ok, so the vintage breaks down with that but deal with it. The blade had to be a Treet Single Edge Carbon. Love these blades. The Fuzzy one made a convert at least that far.

The soap loaded and lathered extremely well. Really nice and slick. Not a lot of scent but it works. I need more info but I"ll get it.

The Gem Jr. is really a great razor. Every time I use it I just like it more and end up back on the Bay looking around. That's one reason it probably needs to go back in the box soon. Soap enablers and Fuzzy ones with cool century old SE razors - two of the most devilish creatures I've encountered in the shaving world. It's almost like a Russian conspiracy - except I'm the Russian - well - you know what I mean. Anyway.

Two passes, little touch up but I did, just for fun, throw a slide on both sides of the neck. Can't call it a G-slide since this isn't a Gillette - well Gem would work - but.......Fuzzball Slide sounds so much better! No blood, no worries, quiet alum, and all is right with the world at Cartel HQ. A fun shave.

The thud you may hear within the next 30 minutes will be the sound of my head banging on my desk as I collapse from the past couple of days. Last night ended at 4 this morning which is when I finally ran out of drunks and other assorted creatures of the STL night to haul around for money. It was a very fun night and a profitable one. If only all the nights could be like that. Here's to a great start to your week!

Lmao...Fuzzball slide. Love it. Glad you enjoyed the shaves. You are very right about the heat. I am back to mostly nights but still......sheesh.

Those carbon steel blades just rock. Much smoother then stainless to me. That soap was originally part of some samples @9nein9 sent to me. They do lather great.

This is crazy, the high today is 96! I should have stayed longer in cool St L.

Back on focus breaking in a boar brush and trying to reduce the soap inventory. Decided to go with some menthol and used the SMN soap. The new to me Nichiri was singing up a storm and gave a nice shave.

I would say they average around three to five here, but they can get to be over forty. I had a forty incher once, so it would have been low twenty pounds.

I like smaller pike (just big enough to get the Y bones out), caught in colder water. Bigger fillets, hot summer, just is mushier/muddier fish. Aside from pickling, I like it like this:

Poor Man’s Lobster - In a pot of boiling water with a few TBS of sugar and a couple of bay leaves, par boil the fish for a minute or so; just so it turns white and firms up. Remove and pat dry. Brush with garlic butter and broil until just starting to brown.

A rushed morning to get a head start on the commute. The Fine Italian Citrus is near the end so I’ll stay with it until it’s finished. The Thater whipped up a wonderful creamy lather. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near BBS. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
