I got REALLY lucky a few months back and found a FatBoy with a good coat of soap scum for $15.00 at an antique store. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. It cleaned up to make a very nice user grade razor.

 

Soap scum is great at preventing oxidation!

I've come to love soap scum for just that reason. I've gotten a couple of deals you wouldn't believe because it didn't register to people that some of that stuff might clean off. I got one especially good deal, and even at the low price, the lady at the register said "you are gonna pay money for THAT?". If I was a seller I might have said something. I just enjoy using old stuff. It cleaned up fantastically, and sees a good bit of use.

Dawn and hot water, old toothbrush. Follow up with an alcohol bath, then mineral oil lube. Some of my best razor deals came right out of the bathrooms at estate sales. I hope my kids check the bay before tossing my gear after I kick it.

July 23 - Shaving like the Fuzzter!

Razor - Gem Junior LC
Blade - (2)
Soap - Stirling Bay Rum
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
Post - Alum, TSD Bay Rum AS

I stayed with the Gem Junior and Treet blade. Realized I had been stuck on my synthetics for a long time so soaked the Wolf Silvertip and got it ready to go. Stirling Bay Rum for the soap and scent. Gave it the feel and smell of a classic vintage shave. I also have the TSD Bay Rum AS that @Paul76 gave me at the meetup and I'll use that tomorrow morning as I head out to work.

Two passes again tonight and once again the Treet carbon SE blade was fantastic. I don't see myself ever buying another stainless SE blade. The CVS SE blades are also carbon, but I'll most likely source some of the Treets to have on hand when I decide to use SE razors in the future. I love the sound and the smoothness. Carbon really does add a great feel and sound to the shave, especially on the old LC razors. The Gem Jr. is more fun every time I use it.

For touch ups at the end I once again went with Fuzzball Slides to finish up. The baby is in the house, it smells like the Caribbean and all is well in the world. Great way to finish up the day.

You have a view that I would love to have as my retirement view. Just a cabin in the mountains. Ok, so I'd need internet too, but beyond that I'd be good. Have a great vacation!

Tub sniffers - every dang one of us.

 

A rumor went around the interwebs that Mattress Firm was really just a money-laundering scam for certain nefarious groups. If that was true I'd be really upset that my pay clearly doesn't indicate that level of profit.

 

We are having record heat so I am working on this tub of SMN, I need the menthol. I used to love mentholated soaps but with straights I need to feel the blade on my skin.

A new to me razor, Atlas (Jwest) with a near wedge grind and fresh off the stones..... it needs to go back to the stones as it was tugging and rough. Fortunately I had a stroped and ready Niles 17, a half hollow Jwest ready to go.
