I have been away for a few days staying with friends. A shared bathroom is not conducive to relaxed Shaves, so I played Safe and had OK fuss free Shaves with an "O" Clone. Really good to be back home and have sole use of my downstairs Shower/Wash room, SWMBO uses upstairs. To date I have had two contrasting Shaves- One Modern SE. One Vintage SE. Mon 6th Aug. RazoRock Syn 22mm MWF ATT SE1 Schick Proline [ 1 ] Alcolado Glacial A very satisfying close all round Shave , with a fresh blade and abundant lather from the MWF Tues 7th Aug Vulfix 404 Vitos Super Red ER "Streamline" Gem PTFE [ 1 ] Pitralon Polar A/S Lotion My first use of a Vintage SE in nearly two months, so I chose to use a "Streamline" which is probably my favourite . From the offset it is quite obvious that this Vintage Razor is more of a handful than its modern counterpart, requiring more care and attention to avoid mishap. I can honestly say that the overall quality of the finished Shave attained today was superior to that of yesterday with the modern SE. In fact it was so close that for the first time in a while I resorted to the use of an Alum Rub/Rinse off .

Tabac Tuesday's Shave Clubman Classic Shave Cream Tabac Shave Soap Jayaruh #30 RazoRock Black Hawk Feather Professional SE CWR Tabac AS My prep was just a cold water rinse. I used Clubman Classic Shave Cream as a pre-shave. It is an non-lathering SC, so I just applied a thin layer before face-lathering the Tabac Shave Soap with the Jayaruh #30 brush. I had used the Alumigoose that @Redfisher lent me, so that is my benchmark. It was the most efficient razor I have ever used I think. I would call the Black Hawk the poor man's Alumigoose. At $33.49 including shipping, it is ever bit as good as the Alumigoose. It weighs in at 39g compared to 50g for the Alumigoose. It loads very easily. I found the correct angle almost immediately. I really like shaving with the wide blade. It is like shaving with a straight. It makes do with my whiskers in short order. I did two passes with the RazoRock Black Hawk Razor with a Feather Professional SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. I could have stopped after one pass, but I could not resist another pass. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Nice shave, Jim! Really like your #30 brush. Also glad to hear the Black Hawk is similar to the Alumigoose. I have the Black Hawk and really enjoy it. No need for me to go hunting for a more expensive artist club razor if it's similar to the more expensive ones. Good to know!
30g is all it is. It doesn't feel too light though. I put a new blade in it, and I was not tempted to add pressure. It was a delightful shave. Like I said, I could have stopped after one pass, but I had the lather, and I was already at the sink. So, I lathered up and did a second pass just because I could. Again, thank you, Mike, for letting me try out your Alumigoose. It is truly a remarkable razor. See my notes on both the Alumigoose and RazoRock Black Hawk. https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/mongoose-alumigoose-and-razorock-black-hawk.60171/
Pre: Cold water face wash, Brush: SOC Boar Soap: Soapy Science Hanalei Razor: Cobra Classic Blade: Schick Proline P Post: Cold water rinse, Alcolado Glacial My first go with a Soapy Science soap, and it's pretty good stuff. It's very slick, a bit light on cushion but I find the slickness compensates for this and the Cobra agreed. The scent isn't great but it's mild enough to live with. All in all not a bad soap. Happy Shaving one and all.
