I mentioned that I really liked the looks of the Portland Razor Company razors in the 30DC thread and my good friend Charlie @wristwatchb told me that he had a PRC Hydra along with an SRD strop that he wasn't using and gave me an incredible price on it!

BTW that strop is phenomenal! None of my other strops are able to cover the entire blade in a single lap!

Oh I forgot I also picked up a Dovo 6/8 round point yesterday too.

I bought it because I've never used a Dovo and it came with three soaps and matching splashes all for only $50 and the razor is supposed to be shave ready! I got from a member over at SRP.

That sounds like a great deal. Let us know how "Shave Ready" it really is. :happy088:

That they would, but I don't need to! There already shave ready the first one is from a seller I know and trust he always delivers Shave ready razors with nicely honed edges. The second one is a razor I owned, sold and got back and is still as sharp as when I sold it. No worries on either one of these! ;)

OK - brief thread hijack.. sort of. I’m having a custom razor made and can choose a Dovo Inox (stainless 5/8 blade) or a Bismarck (Carbon Steel 6/8 Blade). Men of the razor acquisition thread: what blade would you choose to acquire and why?

I don't own either, but, I have razors made of Inox Stainless, but most of mine are Carbon. I prefer Carbon. But, That's just me. Also, the Bismarck is a 6/8th. Plus Plus.

I’m a big fan of the Bismarck. It would be a no-brainer for me. Having said that, I think either will be a nice razor. I can’t wait to see what you get.

I am with Brian, the Bismarck. You may have noticed many of us own Bismarcks and love them. Since you also prefer a heavier razor I would go with the Bismarck. If you want stainless then pick the Master's Series, it is identical to the Bismarck but with no gold and a very different engraving. I have both and do not notice any difference between the 2 for honing nor shaving.

I had a extra little time to kill in my travels yesterday. I stopped by a antique store, and they had several straights, but most were either priced to high, too many issues, or both.
I did pick up this 3/4” + Torrey razor, for a good price. The Scales are nice with no chips, they just need a little cleaning and polishing. The blade centers, and closes perfectly in the scales. The blade it in almost perfect condition, no pitting or staining at all. I’ve already laid the blade across one of my barbers hones to check if the blade was warped, or had any issues. So far it all checks out, and hopefully will hone up easily. If I get a chance tonight, I’ll take it to the stones. I stop at a lot of antique shops, but rarely find anything close to be this nice.
