The Jeeves Bay Rum is definitely a version of Bay Rum that they have created. They took the basic Bay Rum and added orange, patchouli and vanilla. Three definitely non-Caribbean scents. It's a good scent but I don't think of it as a true Bay Rum at all. Still a great performer and its own unique scent. Oleo Soapworks created El Caballero from the Bay Rum base as well but geared it toward a blend of classic Bay Rum and cologne. They chose not to call it Bay Rum, though, which seems a bit more "honest". Stirling's Bay Rum is more traditional by far in scent. All produce top lather so it's just whether or not you like the scent of each one.

Thank you Gents! Both my G-daughters are little gems.

Identical twins in the video? My grands are not the two copies of the same person kind. Although I can see the fun in that situation, I'm glad these two are different individuals born at the same time. My daughter had the presence of mind to deliver them the day after my 50th B-day so I will always remember the date. At seven & a half years old they have their own likes and dislikes, each having strengths in different fields. Younger by several minutes today's assistant is analytical, logical, and four inches taller. Her older sister is skinnier, more emotional, and likes bugs. Next shave I'll have my grandson helping. Yee Haw!

I'm going to be driving down to just outside of London later this morning. The family and I will be staying there for 5 nights... Plenty of opportunity for me to get into the city centre and check out TOBS and DR Harris! Are the creams and soaps by these guys good stuff?

    Yes.

I have never used D.R. Harris products but a lot of guys absolutely love them, and you have to sort of figure that any company that has been making shaving products for as long as it has must have some of the basics figured out by now.

My first "good" shave soap was TOBS Avocado shaving cream. I replaced the tub when it was done. I also now have Lavender and Mr. Taylor's. I had Sandalwood but didn't like it as well, so I PIFed my tub to a fellow Canadian 30DCer to try. Last I heard, he absolutely loves it. I have acquired a huge pile of other soaps and creams since that original TOBS tub, but in retrospect, I could have simply quit at TOBS, never bought all the other soaps and creams, maybe acquired a few additional scents of TOBS for some additional variety, and I really wouldn't have missed anything in shave quality...

I believe the other two "big" traditional British soap companies are Geo. F. Trumper and Cyril Salter. Salter is the youngest of the four, dating back to the end of WW2. As far as I know, Trumper has a shop somewhere in London too. I've tried samples of some of Trumper's creams and they are also outstanding.

A little late night (or is it early morning) catch up before I put my butt to bed. Had to say congrats on 7000 posts! You've been a great member of the 30 DC and I couldn't imagine it without you! Looking forward to every new 1000 posts you share.

Have fun! TOBS and Geo F Trumper make some outstanding shave creams. I lean toward TOBS, though, because they are less expensive and perform just as well. TOBS Sandalwood is a favorite of mine, but I have used the Avocado as well. The shops in London are definitely worth checking out!

Thank you Jason. Yes the E plate is dialed in now. I find the D & E very similar in efficiency with the D being much smoother.

TOBS Sandalwood was my first real shaving soap/cream. TOBS is really an excellent cream.
