    Sunday early morning August 19

    Rockwell 6s on plate #4 / Nacet ( 4)
Vlasta's prototype T-400 aluminum Rubberset copy with 24mm silvertip knot
Jason's Dry Dock wood lather bowl
Soapy Bathman Cup of Joe soap
Soapy Bathman Cup of Joe menthol balm

I am continuing my roadtest of Vlasta's brush. I like it. It is a bit heavier than my wooden Jayaruh versions but by no means uncomfortable. The knot loads and lathers well and has a good balance between backbone and softness.

Today I used the Soapy Bathman soap. I was a bit light on the product loading -- it's a hard soap and takes more time to load than some other products I have been using lately. And I think I then added a bit too much water to the lather bowl. The lather was a bit runnier than I prefer but definitely worked well. Soapy Bathman makes a tallow soap with not just coconut oil, glycerin and shea butter added but lanolin as well. It's good slick stuff with a nice postshave feel too.

A couple passes left me with a high-grade DFS without any nicks, weepers or irritation. I skipped the alum because there was no need to test for errors.

The Soapy Bathman balm is not my favourite postshave product. It is a heavy moisturizing cream balm similar in appearance to the Nivea Sensitive Balm -- which I also don’t use much anymore because it's a heavier product than I generally need. The Soapy Bathman balm is a quality product with lots of great soothing and moisturizing ingredients. For someone with dry skin, especially with a tendency to razorburn, it would be great. I just find it a bit much to use on a daily basis. I do really like the coffee scent of both the soap and balm.

Overall, it was a quick but pleasant shave today, and my skin is now feeling exceptionally soft and well-tended. :)

You are on a run with the great shave reports. I will avoid looking at Soapy Bathman soaps since I have far too many already. ;)

Thanks, gentlemen! I think it was Jason @jtspartan who originally brought Soapy Bathman to my attention when I was looking for a coffee scented soap. It was some local booster enabling on his part, because Soapy Bathman operates out of British Columbia, Canada. ;)

I am keeping a list of soaps I want to try for later next year after I have finished some of my current inventory.

Adjustable (Arko) Anything Goes and whatever else we decide AUGUST!!!!

    August 19

    Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (18)
    Soap - Stirling Electric Sheep
Brush - Stirling Two Band Synthetic
    Post - Alum

The day is done. Well, except for sitting here trying to catch up with you guys, set up my meds for the week, read a little news, check on you guys again, try to stay awake and finally give up and get some sleep. Sunday nights have become a new adventure for me with the extra workload on the weekends but it's all good. Getting to finish the day and the weekend with a shave makes it all better.

Day 18 on the Personna 74. The Toggle still in command and I chose the Electric Sheep. I think I deserve the luxury of the mutton tallow and the scent profile of this one will help keep my eyes open a bit longer. This version of the mutton lathers and handles just like the regular Sheep unscented. It just adds citronella and eucalyptus to the mix to make your nose dance. Good stuff.

Eighteen shaves on a single blade. It's now survived through 6 different razors. If it can survive four more it will have made it a full 30 days. That would be pretty amazing in my book. It still feels smooth, didn't cut or give any other issues, just the after burn from some irritation as it continues to wear with each shave, but the finish remains a very nice DFS. No reason to take it out now. It gets shave 19 tomorrow in a razor yet to be selected and announced. I've used all of the adjustables in my stock other than the Type M Schick Injector but as long as the P74 remains in play I'm sticking with DE for the month. Less than two weeks to go to make it through the month.

Happy Monday to you all tomorrow!

Right now I'd be content with figuring what kind of stroke to use ATG on the hair just under the jaw that grows sideways towards the ear. Won't stretch all the way up or down.

That sounds like one of the strokes I am looking for with my DE! I guess it's just a case of keep on experimenting!

One thing that I would like to do is try a range of blades but keep other variables the same - that will give me a good basis for comparison (much like yourself). I am inclined to attempt to find the best 'budget' blade for me... Though I am not sure I can find much more budget than the £8 I paid for 100 Astra SP on ebay!

James, it's fun to try different blades after your technique is solid. I used Feathers exclusively for about the first three years before trying some of the Russian DE blades. In my experience, the differences are minimal between all the blades I've tried. If you're looking for a good budget blade, you'll eventually want to try Voskhods.
