  1. Wow what a difference. Shave number 7 and it came out great.

Gave my face a rest for two days - after the burning desert of rash and pain I turned it into Saturday - today I went back to my normal routine....

    - Shave in the shower. Neutrogena wash with cloth.
    - Ogala preshave
    - Black Beauty set at 5
    - Astra blade third shave on it.
    - Barrister and Mann Classic -- This time went with 42
    - Cold water rinse and alum bar.
    - B&M 42 aftershave.

Two passes and I don't know if I've ever done smoother with my old Fusion Pro Glide. Absolutely no razor burn. Anywhere even my neck.

I know the advice about paying attention to the grain on my neck helped significantly. Also, I paid much more attention to avoiding shaving over areas without lather... Truthfully I suspect the soap is making a difference here. The B & M classics just seem to leave a lot of slick stuff even after a pass or two. I was careful..... but not perfect.

Thanks all.... Think I'm beginning to get the hand of it all...

  2. How is it more than half way though August already? No chance of me catching up on the thread. My focus this month is using all the razors in the bathroom that have bladsnin them until the blades are used up. I finally killed off the Treet Carbon that came with the woody razor. Also working on using up Tje Shave Den Purple Haze soap. Also trying not to go crazy on the remodel, work, and the home front. My oldest is two days into kindergarden. Photo dump.

  3. Me too. If we all agreed 100% about everything there’d be nothing to talk about and nothing to learn around here. Thankfully, I learn something almost every day from my TSD brothers.

  5. Awesome report! B&M is definitely good stuff, but as @Bama Samurai and I agree, the credit goes to you, not the soap. The more you practice, the more easily those results will be duplicated.

    Razor: Timeless .95 SC
Blade: Feather New Hi Stainless (2)
    Brush: Yaqi High Mountain Silvertip
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
    Soap: PAA Frost Byte
    Stirling Bergamot Lavender witch hazel
    AS: PAA Frost Byte

    Menthol Monday!

    Good evening!
Fine face freeze tonight. Two pass with touch up left me BBS.

I have been wet shaving for about nine months now so not the experience most here have. I have been going through my blade samples and I find that there is more of a difference between them than the color on the wrapper. I don't think the differences are enough to make or break a shave but enough that I have developed preferences. I've also found from reading here and elsewhere that blade preferences are about as subjective as anything else in wet shaving. I'm not saying my preferences or my thoughts on the difference between blades aren't going to change, but that's where I'm at right now.

    Have a great night! [IMG]

  12. Wonderful photo and colors Jim. I have my preferences on blades as well. I think the real issue is new shavers getting caught up on blades without the technique to judge the difference. Much like new shooters being concerned with ammo selection or sights when they lack the skills to outshoot the ammo or the sights.

Now onto something interesting. Tell me about the soap. I’m very curious.

  13. I learned something soon after I joined TSD.....I was critical of the high price of the Bill Neumann(Wm Neumann&Co) soaps, but I was quickly assured that with the pucks being 8 oz., I'd most probably get what I'd pay for.

  16. Beautiful shave, Jim! I love the colors in the photo. I don't mind a little freeze in August. :Animatedfrozensmily:

Regarding blades, I use the same razor, brush, and soap or cream for weeks at a time. I've pretty much always done this. I think it's fun to switch up blades to see if I can detect subtle differences. And the differences I've seen so far are subtle, at best. I think that becomes possible as technique develops.
  17. Thank you, Clint.
The Frost Byte is cold! If memory serves me correctly, this is my third use. I don't remember it feeling as cold as it felt tonight. It's a peppermint scent that I really enjoy.

I shaved for many, many years with a cart and whatever bar of soap that was in the soapdish. I'm enjoying the whole process and variety that wet shaving has to offer.
