Old Toby in the meer. It tasted better after the LGF. Should I keep alternating or just go with LGF for a while?
I'm acronymly challenged, don't know LGF. Is it possible, or desirous to make a blend of the two? Tapatalk Via Kyocera
I’m not familiar with Reiner LGF, other than what I read. I agree with Chris that a basic Virginia smoked consistently for some period helps a lot with reducing ghosting. So with that in mind, and based on your experience with LGF, I think I would stick with it until ghosting is mostly gone or eliminated.
Humm, I just read about Long Golden Flake (Blend No. 71). "...blend of Golden Virginias, a little White Burley, and a touch of Perique" That does sound like a good solid mix.
I've seen several other blends offered by Orlik. Haven't tried any except OGS. I have experimented with doing my own blending. Those three types - Virginia, Burley, and Perique are the heart of what I prefer.
MM has several cob styles that I consider a big improvement on their baseline cobs. This Charlestown Cobbler has a comfortable acrylic bit, much better than the ABS plastic bit IMHO. Their cobbit series (churchwardens) reportedly have acrylic bits now also.
Other than OGS, my Orlik experience has been limited to Racing Green, and an unopened tin of Mellow Mixture. I wasn’t impressed with Racing Green. Although it has been described by some as a semi-aromatic, it was full on aro to me. I tried letting it air out for a while, but although the aromatic flavor subsided, it still didn’t work for me. To be fair, I’m not an aromatic smoker. If you like aromatics, it’s worth a try.
No doubt the acrylic bit is far superior to the plastic. However, the thing I dislike about cobs is the pine shank. If they could make that from a hardwood, they would be much better. The pine irritates my throat initially, and thereafter, at least in my mind, has an off taste. The cob bowl itself works well.
Esoterica Peacehaven in a Stefano Santambrogia. Some substantial drying and maybe 3 years in a jar have definitely improved this blend. It is, as I have stated before, fairly one dimensional; but after airing out and jarring, if sipped slowly, it is now much more rewarding. Accompanied by my favorite coffee, Peruvian whole bean medium roast.
