Great photo and setup, Doug! Nice shave report, John! My first TSD soap was bay rum. Really good stuff. Strong scent.
Nuàvia is really a pretty good soap. The big draw are the scents more than the performance. I have only used 2 of the 4, Rossa and Blu. Between the 2 I preferred the Rossa. Perhaps @Boojum1 could over his comments on the scents. I believe Mark has used all 4. I would reorder Rossa and likely Blu if it were available as a refill. I do not need another one of the nice porcelain containers and really not interested in paying the price for one.
SOTD August 26, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Personna Ultra Chrome Razor: Schick M1 injector Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic Soap: Hendrix Classics and Company Barbershop Post: Witch hazel, Country Club for Men Modern Fougere aftershave Excellent shave with the M1 adjustable and a new sample of Hendrix Classics Barbershop. @Primotenore used this soap recently and I got a free sample from the company. Slick soap, easy to lather, can take a lot of water, etc. All the good stuff you want from a soap. The scent is very close to Reef Point Classic Barbershop. Clean and crisp. Quite enjoyable all around. Had about 52 hours of growth but only did a one pass shave. I'll shave early tomorrow morning like usual so I didn't go for an all out shave today. Great results regardless. Have a great rest of Sunday!
Great photo and report Joesph. I fully admit I am a Soap Bloomer as well. I recall my dad soaking his brush in the mug of soap before using. I have always done the same.
Pete Hendrix at Hendrix Classics is a great guy and does cool custom scales, custom razors and knives, etc. Here’s a knife he did for me: He’s offering a free tub of soap with free shipping worldwide to anyone who checks out his site. https://hendrixclassics.com/collect...ducts/hendrix-classics-co-shaving-soap-sample You’re welcome.
Today I had time before church for a straight shave using the @jtspartan drydock bowl (a daily tradition) along with: Soapy Science - Doc’s Special Blend Hart Steel 6/8 Doug Korn Aquamarine w/ Shavemac D01 Chatillon Lux - Bon Vivant (not pictured) First of all I’m liking the Soapy Science more and more as I use it. It really allows you to get nice thick lather or thin it out easily with water without it becoming a runny mess or breaking down. That’s a really unique feature of the soap that I like a lot. I’m also realizing that much of my irritation when straight shaving is a result of too much pressure, just like it was for all of us when we started DE shaving. Much like you hit a golf ball further when you don’t try to swing hard I get a better shave when I don’t try to “shave hard”, yet in both instances I find it to be my natural inclination to go harder when I’m not getting the results I want. Today was a much smoother, irritation-free straight shave as a result of thinking about this. Like @Keithmax , I probably will require a fourth pass for my neck, as it continues to go no better than a DFS for me there, despite closer to BBS results everywhere else. I’m hoping focusing on the straight (time permitting) during September will entice the baby. As for the D01, it’s a nice firm wall of badger with just a bit of scritch. I’m not a huge fan of scritch, so it remains to be seen if it will become an acquired taste for me. Still a very enjoyable brush, nonetheless.
You may want to use the contact link and ask him. Maybe he meant free soap and he’ll ship worldwide. He had me at “free soap”.
