3rd shave with the MMOC. Went back to a 2 pass shave this morning. This razor demands a light touch, no question. After a couple of passes and a little touch up, I'd call this a DFS. Definitely not completely smooth, but more than acceptable. I pulled out the rarely used Alum as a bit of an irritation test and it was actually quite quiet. It is the 3rd pass on the neck that seems to be what I need to get dialed in, if I want to keep trying to work on technique with this razor. Finished with the Barbershop as today's Stirling product.
    Have a great day all!

Proving once again, it's best not to ask non-shaving questions in the 30DC unless you are prepared for the answers. :scared011:

    Razor: Gem G-Bar
Blade: Gem by Personna Stainless (1)
    Brush: 30DC LE/Pure Badger
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH
    Balm: Every Man Jack

The Save Gods seem to be conspiring against me when it comes to using a CS blade in a Gem this month. After Monday's misstep with the PAL blade, I went to pull out a Gem Blue Star for today. Unfortunately, the first two that I pulled out had enough discoloration to concern me that they may have been exposed to too much dampness. Instead, I went with a Stainless.

I'm not totally sure what to say about this shave other than I really need to work on my technique when using a Gem. On the upside, it was an extremely close shave. On the downside, I got three weepers on the on rough area of my chin and near my Adam's Apple. Worse was the sting from the Alum. Clearly, I need to work on how I handle the bigger blade in the curves in order to keep a proper angle and light touch. But then that's what foci are here for.

Great photo, Joseph! Thanks for the comparison of the two aftershaves. I need to grab a sample of the Cool and compare it to RazoRock Blue Barbershop and Epsilon Blue Mediterranean which are both Floid Blue duplications. I have both of those but have never tried original Floid Blue.

Great information on the Cool/Blue, Joseph. I love the Cool, but never had the opportunity to own Floid Blue, and have always wondered just how close they are. Thanks.:happy088:

Your G-Bar experience sounds a lot like my current MMOC experience, John. I did have a pretty easy and intuitive time breaking in my Gem Jr last year, though. I'd say the Gems can't all be lumped together in terms of how they shave and the technique required.

Enough days yet for an opinion on that brush, Clint?
Sounds like a great start to the day, Perry!
The Speick sounds like a winner, Jim. I was just thinking you needed to add some more splashes lately...;)
Another beaut, Jim. What do you think of the Sandpiper?
You always travel in style, Brian!
Cool combo. Did you end up keeping all those prototype Schicks, Andrew (if that is what your real name is)?

I kept almost all of them. I did end up PIFing one of them on the Injector and SE thread when it hit 1000 pages. Dan @sdguero was the lucky winner, its a shame he isn't around anymore.

    Schick injector, Chick blade
    Shulton Old Spice AS
SOTD 09052018.gif Previous shaves I used a prototype that hasn't reached production. In keeping with Neal's Time Warp this is one of my older SE's. Might be an E or G type. Two numbers on the underside, parallel bar grooves, and leaning towards aggressive. Last shave I meant to use the Tuxedo knotted ferrule with the B-400 handle. My daughter asked for a lather to leg shave and I used that one then. So getting off step in my flibberdigibbet rotation I grabbed up a different badger. This brush and that soap didn't play well together. The knot gobbled up the soap fast as I could load it. Giving the beast fur a squeeze got it out where I could hydrate and apply, but it was a fight for each pass. My own wisdom says,"Use badgers with creams". Ever have and argument with yourself and loose? Rolling with the changes, adapting and overcoming the 3+ pass got done. Overall the lather was very good if difficult to apply & the razor worked well on the above par residual slickness. No Clubman today. Instead a splash of old school from it's original bottle. Once I started looking, full Shulton OS AS bottles came easy. Only have 3 or 4 more tucked away.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

I really like the brush Jason. It’s a keeper and should get better when the boar bristles are completely broken in.
