  3. I invented two shave moves for the straight razor today. One is called the windshield wiper. The other is called the conductor. I hope to repeat and perfect one of these moves. The other, not so much.

The windshield wiper: In trying to get the stubble on my neck I’ve been performing the shaving equivalent of circus tricks with a blade for sometime now. Today I found one that seemed to be effective. Basically I put the tang at my Adams apple with the toe end Of the razor touching my chin/jawline. Then I pivot the blade just like a windshield wiper to swipe all the way down my neck. Same motion as the hands of a clock. This seem to be really effective in one direction. I’ll have to try the reverse windshield wiper as well In order to get the whiskers from the other direction. Weird, I know. Weird for this group? Probably not.
The conductor: Now onto the second move which I hope to never repeat again. After finishing my shave somehow the tip of one of my fingers on my left hand collided with the blade held in my right hand. I have no idea how this happened other then after my shave I must have apparently flailed my arms around like Mickey Mouse conducting the broomsticks in the sorcerers apprentice. My wife calls this type of thing a “Jack Ritter move”, but she is the one typically guilty of them. Hers typically don’t involve steel colliding with bone, lots of gushing blood, or superglue finger repairs though. When she asked me how this could possibly happen, my only explanation was “This is what guys do”.
Pro-tip: there is a reason the superglue at the dollar store is only a buck. Next time I’ll have the good stuff on hand.

  6. The Atomic Age Bay Rum has no clove in it, and in reality, IMO, it is by far the best Bay Rum I have smelled. The Boomtown Bay Rum also does not have any clove in it, but it isn't quite as nice as the Atomic Age. The fall release of the Pumpkin Bay Rum is not supposed to have any clove either, and I am very much considering this one.

Thank you for the kind words!
  7. :thanks: Jim.

  8. I received the Atomic Pumkin yesterday. The pumpkin spice combined with the bay rum works for me. The scent is intoxicating.

  10. Thank you, Perry. I don't have an original L-1 to compare it to. It doesn't feel to different from the J-1 I have, though.

Man, what a freaking good shave. I haven't pulled out the Ol' black handle in a while, and forgot what a good shaver it is. Continued the Stirling theme, and never seem to go wrong with Baker St. I think it's not so much that I use it when I'm in the mood as that it puts me in the mood whenever I use it.

  14. I came across this video when hunting for some advice for MMOCs... At around 3.40 he goes into how to load a blade into one. Is this actually legit or do you just drop it in and go?
  15. Ouch Randy, hope that heals quickly.

  18. Ouch, and I say that with all the empathy of a guy who's been a hands on woodworker, shade tree mechanic, and all around manual laborer for decades. Keep it clean because I hate to see folks posting in the "Does this look infected?" thread.

Shave 5 of the MMOC focus early this morning. Everyday with the MMOC is improving. Was able to do an ATG on parts of my neck without the Alum going berserk. Still a little redness, but very acceptable. I'll keep going with it for the weekend shave. Today's Stirling product is the G&T. I need to use it more.
    Have a great evening, all!

  20. Ladies and Gentlemen, put your hands together for Mr. Shavette Fu....
Interestingly, the Stirling Bay Rum was my first Bay Rum before adding a few others via sample. It is the one that I judge other Bay Rums by as a result- it never occurred to me that it may in fact be the outlier for 'traditional' Bay Rums...
I think you've inspired me to pull out my G4 next after the MMOC, Perry.
Stellar pic, Jim. What do you think of the Mountain Man? Ever tried Silver Water or any other dupes?
Palmolive! The stick is the best deal in wetshaving...great photo effect again, Jim.
I love the Spice (and Cool for that matter). Don't have Shulton to compare it to, but like the Spice without any nostalgia. I think the Classic will need to join my 'trio' as well...actually probably Fern as well...
TGIF! Fantastic shots of the boys, and great to hear the MMOC is completely tamed. I think I'm on my way to getting it dialed in as well.
My Hendrix sample isn't here yet, John, but I agree with you to try to support Pete and his generosity.
Put that one on the calendar, Doug!
Yowzers, Randy. Hope that heals in a timely fashion.
Yup, agree on the Baker Street, Chris. I had it in a 1oz sample and need to get more.
