OCtober 1 First shave of the month Jayaruh custom Gillette with matching brush #147 Rapira platinum lux blade Jeff’s soap Myrsol emulsion Tonight’s shave went very good, two passes with very minimal clean up.
It is the triple milled. Softer than I thought it would be. I normally squeeze my brush and give it a quick flick. Too dry of a start for this soap. It took me awhile to get it to the consistency I like. I need to remember to start with a wetter brush the next time. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Absolutely stunning examples of the OT razors. Definitely worth the elbow grease to get that beauty uncovered. Plus no money outlay for replating. Wins all the way around!
While I love my Delta Echo NEW LC, I have not yet found another razor I would want to go that route with, largely due to my preference for true vintage and restoration. My NEW SC is in need of a replating (although after seeing a couple of the cleaning jobs done here I'm going to try that first and see if I'm pleasantly surprised) and I considered taking it the Delta Echo route. However, it's Deluxe SC so a bit more rare. If it does go for replating it's coming back gold to match its original finish. I would consider sending a Slim or something more common like that to have the modern finish, but only because I already have a vintage one in fine condition. Call me old-school, but there you go.
I'm curious too. I figure I'll know the answer in a week or so. One thing I did notice about the Probak -- absolutely rigid blade placement. Those extended keyhole shaped posts set the blade precisely on the razor with no wiggle room whatsoever.
I know the feeling. If I could ever justify the expense, I'd probably go with DE or North Shore for my brassy Slim as I already have an Aristocrat Adjustable.
Thanks, Neal. I was particularly pleased with the way those silverplated razors turned out because I didn't have a clue that was even possible. I was so sure the plating had flaked or pealed off them that I almost didn't bother doing any polishing because I didn't really think there was any point. I agree about the Cerakote versus plating comment you make. I decided to go with Cerakote for my Gillette adjustables and tossed a coin between North Shore and Delta Echo. But I only went with the modern coating for them instead of a replate because they are fairly common razors still even in mint condition and mine were totally grungy to the lower end of the "user grade" spectrum. I therefore didn't feel like I was desecrating an antique or anything. I'm not so sure I can feel the same about a century-old Old Type or even a NEW. So I am more likely to do a replate with those.
I had two days of beard this morning so I decided to get out one of my favorite very open combed razors. Two passes only gave me a DFS. Time for a touch up. Cella Shave Soap Elk Antler Badger Brush Bismarck #2 Razor Lucky Tiger Brut Dominant After Shave Have fun!
Gents, I have a problem. I need to make room for a couple new brushes that I have coming in. So I decided pass these three along. The first is an Ever-Ready H40 that Jim @jimjo1031 re-knotted for me with a 24mm Mac Metalworks Tuxedo. You all know that I love me a brush with backbone. So keep that in mind when I say this; this brush has too much backbone. It has so much backbone that it hardly splays when face lathering, I find that the only way I can use it is to bowl lather and then paint on the resulting lather. I don't know how Jim set the knot so I don't know if it could be easily pulled and replaced. The second brush is a 26mm Yaqi "Evil Zebra" synthetic. The loft is so high that I find it to be too floppy for my liking. The last brush is a Yaqi 24mm boar. I find this knot to be too small and it doesn't have the backbone you would expect from a boar. Plus it's a shedder. I would like to give first priority to newer crew members who may not have an extensive brush collection , and then if they remain unclaimed after 24 hours I will offer them to all members. First to claim them gets them. One brush per person, to spread the love! Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
