1. OCtober 2, 2018

The Gillette Double Ring started it all, it was THE first. The Single Ring cemented Gillette’s place in history and made the Gillette Open Combs Immortals with which all others are judged by. We know that one of the most coveted OC’s in the Gillette line is the Double Ring but, the Single Ring was the one that carried the torch and got into the hands of millions from 1905 until 1921. There are those that say the RFB is the King of shavers. They might be right but, the RFB is for Legends. The Single Ring is for the Gods and the Immortals......

A much better morning than yesterday. A very nice two pass shave to start the day. I didn't catch the baby but the shave is more than good enough for work. A splash of Grand Bay and I off to fight Atlanta traffic.

    Vintage English Leather

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Williams Mug Shave Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #316 brush. I did two passes with the Segal OC Safety Razor with a Segal DE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Vintage English Leather AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  17. The age of Renaissance Men is passed, Paul. There's too much information for any one person to know it all. Even Mod's have gaps in our educations. Fortunately our current Information Age gives access to the wisdom of the ages. Therefore I put a question to anyone with the answer.

What was the original finish on a Gillette NEW long comb? I'm thinking a thin gold wash that's worn away on many brassy well loved razors. I've seen most replated in gold, a few in nickle. I like the looks of the nickle, but may be influenced by my Fatip Piccolo and Jim's @Jayaruh NEW LC.
(I'll find out Joseph @Primotenore! If it's nickle, I might give a try at @Draftetdan's procedure.)

Verily, too many threads and post to read every one. TSD has a well behaved membership so those of us on staff (me, anyways) don't see everything. I have shifted my own SOTD post to The 30 Day Crew, with occasional specialty threads. It's all just used electrons, and they recycle well. Please yourself Jan @Jan Zoethout!

Showing gaps in my education of the minutia of Gillette History; I've heard of Single and Double Ring. Does that refer to the detail on the bottom of the handle where it's knurled but has a polished indention?

Actually the reference to double and single ring is with the ring (s) just below the cap and base plate as the handle is attached permanently to the base of the head. That single ring you see just below the smooth neck is where users and collectors name the Gillette depending on how many rings they see. The double ring of course being the rarest as it was only produced for a couple of years. I'm still searching for one...... :lam:

  20. From a @Darkbulb post https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/so-is-this-a-gillette-double-ring-dr.46608/ Single Ring on top Double Ring on bottom. I think Jim @Jayaruh has one too!
