    Razor: Schick B1 Repeater
    Blade: Schick ProLine B (1)
    Brush: VdH Boar
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today was a tale of razors and blood. I decided to take a day off from the OC thing to try a razor which arrived earlier this week. As some of you may recall, last week, I managed to score a Schick B1 Repeater and case for the princely sum of $12.99 shipped. I've been playing with it off-and-on all week as it seemed to have a loose head pivot and a stiff loading mechanism.

Interesting note on Repeaters: If the pivot is loose, then trying to load a blade may cause the head to pivot, resulting in a blade jam. I came really close a couple of times and this was with the vintage blades that came with it (not modern ones).

Despite continuing concerns about the loose pivot, I went ahead and used it today with a fresh Schick ProLine B blade. There was one close call when the head pivoted unexpectedly, but no incidents otherwise. All told, a close shave with just a hint of sting from the Alum.

So, what about the blood that I promised? I'm getting to that.

After the shave, I took a look at this B1 and my first one to see if I could determine what was going on with the pivot. As near as I could tell, the newly-acquired one was a bit more "sprung" at the point where the handle folds into the head. So, like any good idiot, I unscrewed and removed the head without first removing the blade. That got me a cut on my left index finger. Next, I crimped the head a bit too much, apparently, which made reassembly difficult and the mechanism stiff. As part of testing, I let the razor load another blade. Finally, while pushing on the still-stiff head, I somehow sliced my right thumb for even more blood. (I think there may still be spots on the handle.)

Everything seems to be working, though I probably need to go back sometime and see if I can get the pivot to loosen up a tad. It's still too stiff for convenient use.

Nope not at TOST. we have The Loaners. If someone wants to try something they post it and soneone will loan it to them to try out.

Honest question: How long could you go on daily shaves without using the same razor twice? Estimates are good.

This one should be, when it's done. The silver mostly cleaned up well and the case is actually in better shape than I thought. I just need to get the pivot to a more comfortable spot and see if I can the the slide to move easier. I probably need to take the whole insides apart and do a thorough clean and lube.

I shaved last night. I've been getting a little lazy on how often I am shaving, since I don't have anyone at work reporting directly to me right now. Decided to see if I can stay focused this month and shave at least 15 times. Used my sample of Stirling Pharaoh's Dreamsicle. Since December 26th, 2016, I have labeled all of my soaps when I start them, so I have an idea of how long they have been in rotation. This one ounce sample was started on December 29th, 2016. Yesterday I finally saw a ring in the bottom of the container. Second use of the QShave Parthenon razor, and with the QShave branded blade. Set the razor on 5 this time. It was efficient, but not as mild as I initially thought. I got a little confident with pressure and buffing, and was rewarded with a healthy crop of weepers on my chin and neck. Whoops. Slowed the blood with alum and witch hazel, and finished off with super mentholated Barbarsol Brisk with Jasmine EO. Love the scent, and super cold.

Thank you Andrew. Still working on learning both the new phone camera & the brush. Tomorrow's another day to try again!

Thanks for the info John! It's close to a century old and still shave well despite the rough treatment by previous owners. I might get all adventurous and try @Draftetdan's home brew nickel plating technique.

I knew y'all were fast and loose with the Loaners. While I rarely visit other Forums, and that's because TSD keeps me busy and entertained, one day I'll find an SE razor I can't walk away from. First stop will be TOST to ask the experts how to correctly use the tool.

...like 100 gallons of kerosene to 6 ounces of Clubman? Then you'd really have something you could use...in a space heater. :happy097:
