I received my first order from Top of the Chain last week. The shipping was quick, although I wasn’t given a shipping notification. Best price I found on SV soaps around. Canadian Blade Co (renamed, but I can’t remember to what), Fendrihan and Italian Barber have all been easy to deal with within country as well. All have things (and brands) that they are the best at doing or getting. I had placed an early order with Men Essentials too, but they are gone now. Besides the obvious advantage to cheaper (or zero) shipping by ordering in country, you can get alcohol based products at all of them as well.
I agree with you on that store list. I haven't used Top of the Chain yet but the others have all been very good to deal with. I just ordered a couple tubs of Stirling soap and several Jeeves and Stirling splashes from Canadian Beard and Blade Co. (I think that is the name now) and added a sample size of the Stirling Scots Pine Sheep. And when the order arrived, they had upgraded me to a full tub at no extra charge!
Ummm...I hesitate to post this, as I consider us friends, and brothers in arms in a failed ‘NB...but here goes, nonetheless- You remember yesterday (or today, the days tend to blend on here) when Adam posted that link to the Jeeves review on the Daily Lather? Well, I looked around that site a bit last night, and he has a links tab that connects to a metric tonne of vendors, artisans, etc. Anyway, he has a number of Canadian Vendors linked. The ones we’ve already mentioned are all on there, but a few others I hadn’t heard of were on there. One was a Saskatoon location that delivers (I’m ducking your insults right now...) but they didn’t have a lot of product. Another was Stonefield Shaving out of Winnipeg that I was really intrigued by. They have a section called Canadiana, which is 20 pages (!) of Canadian products. Some, like Henri et Victoria or Elvado, you can get anywhere. However, they have the full line up of First Canadian stuff -which you don’t see anywhere- plus stuff like Prohibition Style -which unless they have changed their base you shouldn’t see anywhere- to lots of other stuff I’ve never heard of. I might spend a little bit of time on the site sometime. For purely research purposes, you understand.
Oh absolutely I understand -- it's for Science... Uhm, you said that link was from that Daily Lather site? As you know, the Scientific Method requires that results be replicable by other interested parties....
one major reason i shop with all of these sights is the aftershave factor.maggards and west coast shaving have been really good with shipping fees..
They do! I specifically included them because I have about nine one ounce samples from Stirling in my pile.
i bought a pottery shave bowl from stonefield shaving as i couldn t find a captains choice one up here..great handmade bowl, works well,.
OCtober Oleo and Odd Balls!! October 9 Razor - Fatip Piccolo Blade - (3) Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum Brush -Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum A rather long day today. GrubHub kept me out a bit late which is ok. As long as I'm making some $$$ I keep running. I ended up in North County tonight so it was a bit of a drive home but I made it and was able to have a late dinner and relax with a very nice shave. Third day on Fatip and Voskhod. At some point I'm going to switch to a bigger handle, probably from my EJ89 just to get the feel of this razor with something other than the Piccolo handle. I'm sure it's just as good. Absolutely smooth and another baby is in the room after two passes and touch ups. My "odds and ends" soap was the Jeeves Bay Rum. It's not as much of an "oddball" as a few I have around but it's one I don't use as often as some so it counts. Plus, my wife loves the Bay Rum scent profile so all of my Bay Rums are favorites of hers. Have a great day tomorrow! Well, later this morning actually. The Time Warp is starting to run again.
This sort of thing baffles me on a regular basis. I'm a fan of when something is, say, £7.50, giving the cashier £12.50 to offload the unwanted change from my wallet and replace it with a note. They then panic and get all flustered. When calmly telling them that the correct change is £5 they eyeball you as if some sort of crook trying to use them as a proxy for stealing from the till! Sad times indeed.
