  1. Thank you, Charlie! Yes, his significant problems are washed away by that mischievous smile. Prayers were certainly answered in his case.

  2. November 2, 2018- NOthing But Techs

Razor: Flawsome Pre-War Fat Handle Tech
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today's shave is with the pre-War counterpart of yesterday's razor. The head came from an inexpensive eBay buy which I mainly bought for the Bakelite handle and for the fact that it seemed to have the same plating issue as yesterday's post-War Tech. While examining this one, I made the discovery that it had a steel baseplate which had been copper-plated and then gold washed. A wartime razor with steel baseplate, gold head, and plastic handle seems odd but Achim's site does show one such. Like yesterday's razor, the baseplate on this one has also been painted with Rustoleum Ultimate hammered metal paint. The handle came with a somewhat mangled OT head as part of a lot I bought early in my journey. It looks to have originally been Nickel-plated but all that remains is a bit on the end of the handle and in some of the deep grooves.

Despite the flaws, I can't fault the shave. Two passes to a near-enough BBS with no issues.

On a different note: Thank you all for your inputs regarding the use of a Canadian military Tech on Veterans'/Remembrance Day. I'm currently planning to use that one on Sunday 11/11 and devote the rest of the week to the military Techs in my den:
    • Canadian pre-War in Khaki set
    • US Contract Tech w/transitional baseplate
    • US Bakelite Tech
    • English FB Tech which appears to have been from a military set based on markings
    • Clix, Star, and Simplex Bakelite razors to round out the week (as needed)
I have a bit over a week in the interim and at least 4 lined up on deck. As I said, I'll do what i can to keep this interesting.
  3. Nice lineup, John! Did you snap a pic of this one ? Do we know if any steel top caps were produced ?

  7. I forgot the pictures:

The cap was still wet when I took the second picture, so it amplified the imperfections. :)

  8. Somehow that razor looks much better in your photo than it ever has in mine...

I agree about the Bergamot Lavender scent. I classed it as a solid "meh" too. I think it was the weakest of the four scent samples (Bergamot Lavender, Red Delicious, Coniferous and Autumn Glory), although I don't see myself getting any of them as a full bottle of splash or tub of soap.

When you return the razor, keep the cartridge of PAL blades -- try them in your Injectomatic and see if there's any difference using PAL blades in a PAL injector or in loading them.

You have a Walbusch? I would definitely like to see some pictures. How does it shave?

  14. I forgot to add the pictures initially. They are also over on the "flawsome" thread.

I really don't know if they made steel top caps. TBH, I haven't checked all that much. I suspect, however, that something like Zinc was more likely. I'll try to remember to get out the magnet as I hit the wartime razors.
  15. Great setup and picture with a beautiful brush Rick. :happy096:
