  2. I hear you. I’m thinking of passing on the Vector tomorrow. Not a noble thought since I did some internet shopping last night while consuming adult beverages.

  3. Great photo Charlie. That brush should eat through some soap.

  4. Evening shave. Broke out the Western States Straight today. This one is only 5/8 and pretty tarnished, but she has awesome scales and gave me a high grade DFS with no irritation.

  5. Thanks Clint. It is a big brush, and it's finishing up the remnants of the LPL soap quite nicely.

  7. Friday evening November 2 - No Repeat / No Plan Fat Friday

I will possibly join Adam @Drygulch in doing EDRIO next year (although I have some early wedge razors I won't shave with on a bet, so mine will be Almost EDRIO). I am therefore not going to try a No Repeat with my razors now; instead I will do No Plan, grabbing favourites at random. I will do the same with my brushes, although I only have 11 anyway, so I couldn't do a No Repeat with them anyhow. I am going to do a No Repeat with the soaps/creams and aftershave splashes or balms.

This was today's result. (I realised I forgot to pick a brush after taking the photo.):

    IMG_20181102_181126.jpg

Gillette Fatboy refurbished by Delta Echo in Ink colour scheme, on #4 / Nacet (2)
    Simpsons CH2 Chubby Synthetic Bristles
    Kent/MWF in beechwood tub
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent and Hendrix Classics Barbershop balm test sample

A good smooth shave. I don't use The Fat enough (and won't be using it again this month). Two easy passes to a DFS. No issues.

Since I am working all weekend, I will probably use coffee soaps and splashes for the next three days as a wakeup.

  8. First shave report in a while.

Razors: Fatboy at 7. Blackbeauty at 3 for my lower throat area.
Pre Shave: Ogalala Sandalwood / Bay Rum as a preshave. - I'm about half way done with the bottle now. I'll probably stop using preshaves once done.
Shave Soap: Wholly Kaw King Of Oud Soap. -- WOW! This stuff is nice. Love the scent hard to put into words. Kind of leathery, kind of florally but not really either. Sweet yet masculine. Not too thirsty. Nice structured lather that left a wonderful residual slickness. Highly impressed with this stuff.
    Cold water rinse.
My trusty alum block for 2 minutes. Cold water rinse.
Post shave: Wholly Kaw King of Oud Toner. Again really impressed with this stuff. I was surprised there was no sting when applied -- need to review the ingredients again thought there was alcohol evidently not. The scent again is florally, leathery sort of but not really --- somehow it pulls this off while remaining a distinctly masculine scent. Maybe like some of the better sandalwood preparations?

Most importantly though --- and this is why I'm in love with the WK King of Oud Toner -- It restored what had become some very dry skin on my part after only one shave. In the prior 3 days I'd had 2 swim workouts in highly chlorinated pools plus an additional 3 high intensity training sessions in my gym --- neutrogena soap isn't the worst in the world but that's a lot of soap and chlorine over a short period of time. [5 showers washes in total on top of the chlorine from the pool.] One session with the WK KofOud toner and you'd never how hard I'd hit it.

  15. Thanks, gentlemen!

I hadn't used Nacets much before - I just have a sample tuck of them. They certainly are sharp and smooth.
  16. Great plan! I have a rather ratty WW1 Khaki Service Set that I will use on the 11th. Even though I am a bit doubtful about whether the razor in it truly came with it originally. It's a Ball End Old Type, which is correct, but it has no serial number on it, and I think in that period it should have. I suspect it's a post-War 1921-1929 era razor that's been stuck in a WW1 case.

  17. Motor oil is one thing. Midnight Stag smells more like someone dumped gasoline on you. Even with gasoline prices being high, it’s still cheaper per ounce to go with actual gasoline. ;)
But, if you like a robust leather scent, Flying Hide fits the bill nicely.
