That's cool. If anybody else wants a 1917 nickel-plated baseplate, let me know. I can try to get it into the mail on Monday so you should have it in time for Veterans' Day. I'll throw in a handle and thin top cap, but I'm not totally sure if the cap is usable or a MayHEM in the making (it looks a bit like someone tried to make a slant by shaving down opposite corners of the cap).

Wow. Fantastic lineup Doug. The Tech looks magnificent.

I looked at it but am not sure how best to go about it. It looks like the opening in the top is about 17mm, so first I would have to find a small enough knot. Second, it looks like the knot holder originally screwed into place from inside the brush handle and it seems frozen in place. I think replacement may be a tough job.

Thanks very much Clint. I like the case, price tag, and the cardboard that separated the head and base plate when it was new. I think it is a 1940's Tech. It is a very good shaver. Thanks again.

Sounds like it would be a very tough job. I wouldn’t want to mess up the set with a botched up job

Drop in a couple unexpected Honey Dew projects before you start making dust. There's a good chance your vacation cabin doesn't have enough electrical outlets to plug in the Shop tools.

If I was I tend to give then this look.

I’ll keep your expertise in mind if I decide to go the LE Stand route. I think I have another rabbit hole to fall into first, hopefully it doesn’t end in marital discord- My first resin and colour:

I have some ideas for some resin/wood combos. This is a rabbit hole (well?, cave?, crater?) I’ve resisted for awhile. We’ll see how it goes.

With the grand daughters jiggling my elbow to go ride bikes, I slipped in a shave. Muttony tallow goodness in the lather and a new to me 2nd hand brush gave great lather with a couple dozen dropped bristles. I'll keep the soap sample and consider dropping a fresh knot in the handle. The scent of the soap suits, close to ARKO even. Of those Stirlings I've tried it's one I'd order in a full tub & matching AS. The brush I picked up at a garage sale and is similar to one PIF'd away. It would be great with an Omega boar knot. Seen a number of gold washed Gillettes so I dusted mine off. It's not my favorite, but in the top five. The beard reduction proceeded as expected - DFS or better with no blood spilt. To finish I used the roll on Patchouli under my neck and splashed on cologne to keep the lemongrass going. Now I gotta toss the bikes in the truck bed, pack up some nibbles for the ducks & pigeons, and enjoy some breezy sunshine at the Civic Center from a saddle.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

(Additional note; The plastic cover for the Old Spice mug courtesy of a cardboard sugar or creamer container. Nice tight fit!)

Hopefully you can get the set completely usable, but at least the razor and case are good to go already.
Stunning razor and case, Doug! Phenomenal set up.
Agree with Clint here, John. I think, based on the pics you show of the sloping knot holder, that you need to get that ‘frozen’ knot holder loose. I see that as the best way of not messing it up. Making a homemade ‘bottom’ for the knot base would be very tough given the non-parallel walls. Not worth ruining it to try, imho.
Another beautiful old gold Gillette today! They are multiplying.

I'm going to use Soap Commander next week until Friday when I switch over to Mitchell's. I own five scents of Soap Commander and used one today so I'll use the other four next week. Trying to come up with a focus and thought about Soap Commander all month. May still do that.

Was rooting around in my den and came across a sample of Route 66 Cavendish that I had forgotten about. Also have some other samples waiting to be finished. And then more soaps lurking.

Perhaps I'm overthinking it. It's just shaving.....

That should provide some interesting scope for experimentation. Are you thinking of trying brush handles made of combined wood and epoxy?

Yes, I think Clint and you are right. I will try to unscrew the knot holder from inside the brush handle using long needlenose pliers. And apply penetrating oil to the threads. But if it doesn't budge, then I just leave the brush alone and keep the set "as is". The only way to fit a new knot from the top would be to widen the hole in the metal cap and that would be very risky.

Edit: Okay, I tried pliers from the inside. They can barely get a grip while the cap has about 50 years of corrosion holding it tight. That top isn't going anywhere. Looks like the brush stays all original...

Great shave and photo Rick. The Aristocrat looks excellent.

    Maybe.
Yes, that’s the tentative plan, anyway. Wood and Resin. Not like the nice burl/translucent Dogwood handle that Jim has though. We’ll see what happens.

If you'll pardon the Cliff Claven in me, in the classic WW2 movie The Great Escape, Charles Bronson's character(Danny)was one of the only 3 Allied soldiers who escaped to freedom.

I had Cavendish as a full puck. Was quite nice. I hope her business continues to do well.
