  1. Beautiful photo, Clint! Look at those white tips!!
  2. Wednesday morning November 7

    Merkur 34C / Nacet (7)
JR #267 birdseye maple and Omega boar knot
    ProRaso White soap
    Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent

No photo today but then nothing too exciting to photograph anyway. The ProRaso White was one of my first soaps. I can tell this tub has been around quite awhile because the ingredients include a full spectrum of the now-evil parabens as preservatives. I used it anyway even though that means I will no doubt develop terminal cancer by lunchtime...

I got the Merkur 34C in a swap a couple months ago. It's a solidly made quality piece of kit and works very well for me. Of course, I rather like mild razors anyway. Loaded with the Nacet, it trimmed my stubble back to cleanshaven in two drama-free passes. I dumped the Nacet after this shave; I thought 7 shaves on it were enough. For postshave, I matched my first good soap with my first postshave product - Thayers Witch Hazel. To be honest, I don't really need all the other splashes and balms that I have added to my den since.

Hope everybody is doing well as we crawl over the hump of the week.
  3. Great photo today, Clint!
  4. Nice shave and report, John.
I agree, what we need and what we use are two different things.

  5. Great shave John! If i didn't have so many razors I would use my 34C more often.
  6. Thank you, Clint! Very nice photo on your post as well. Wonderful colors.
  7. Thanks Clint. Thanks also for the knot recommendation. It's a winner.
  8. Thanks very much Clint.
  9. Sorry to hear that you have or are considering throwing away soaps, Paul. You might consider a PIF or using them in the shower or at the sink. I'm currently using a shave soap to remain nameless in this way.
  10. Excellent picture Clint.
  11. Thank you, Gentlemen.
Why yes, Jim @jluc, I did coincidentally pack some Gentleman...
  12. "coincidentally"
  13. I hope Randy doesn't ready my reply. I wouldn't want him to be tempted by viewing the range of sizes from 19mm to 30mm making them a great option for restoring vintage handles or shedding knots, or the option of bulb or fan Envy White knots. Does anyone have both bulb and fan to give a comparison?

What happens in The 30DC stays in The 30DC, and PM's. I didn't see an offer to sell, just that you may sell them in the future. :happy088:
  14. Great recap of the knock down, drag out fight between those two heavyweights. Good to see the Dart win by TKO. Wingman approves. :)
  15. Thanks Charlie!

  16. Razor: OCMM
    Blade: GEM PTFE (1st use)
Brush: Ever Ready w/ 24mm Tuxedo knot
    Soap: TOBS Peppermint
    Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive

A wonderfully smooth finish to this shave. I don't think the Schick with Personna blades gives as close a finish. I now know what it is about the Schick that I really like... It's the head geometry and the size of the blade. It really lets me get around my face and around my neck. The GEM blades seem clumsy in comparison.

I'll be starting with my trial of the Shick M2 adjustable tomorrow (or the day after). I have already cleaned it and loaded it with a fresh Personna blade. I do actually have some of the Proline blades, but want to see how it compares to the G1 with a like for like blade!
  17. Yes, the Jeeves splashes are top notch. The soaps have a great base too. As does Soap Commander....So many great products, so little time...:angry017:
Very nice combo, Jim. Is the English Fern a dupe of the well known Penhaligon's?
Stunning, simple shot, Jim. Is that your usual lather bowl, or do you use that for soaking the brush?
Another great photo, Charlie! Love the look of the brush.
So, what makes the Ranger Tech #1, Joseph? Besides the quality of shave, obviously. I guess what I'm asking is how is it different from some of the other 'top end' SSs like an Aristocrat Jr or Rocket.
Another home shave! That is a good feeling I'm sure, Brian.
TGIF! Awesome pic and a very informative and entertaining review as well, Andrew. I think what you call Sweet Tea there is just known as Iced Tea here in most of Canada. The first time I ordered an 'Iced Tea' in the US, I almost spat it across the table as I wasn't prepared for it to be unsweetened. All Iced Tea here is pretty heavily sugared. I'd consider that point today's 'Useless fact that I didn't need or care about' winner.
Awesome pic, Doug! Loved the brush when Clint was posting it recently as well.
Speaking of awesome Clint beehive brushes...
  18. :thanks:
  19. I agree, Jason. So many great products out there. Stirling and Soap Commander work really well for me. So does Mitchell's Wool Fat. Thinking about scaling down my den to a few brands that I know work.
  20. Thank you Jason! Yes there is a fundamental difference between Iced Tea and Sweet Tea, depending on what part of the country you are in. Here in health conscious Colorado "Sweet Tea" is still a far cry from what they have in the South. My maternal Grandmother was from Missouri and Sweet Tea at her house always had a layer of sugar that formed on the bottom of the glass from where is fell out of suspension once it hit the ice.
