November 11, 2018- NOthing But Techs, Remembrance Week
Razor: Pre-War Canadian Gillette Tech from Khaki Set
Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (1)
Brush: VdH Boar
Soap: Williams
Post: Alum, Listerine, WH
Today is Veteran's/Remembrance Day, the commemoration of the end of WWI and a day to honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while in service to their countries. I have a WWI US Khaki set with a 1918-dated razor and, normally, I would bring it out for today's shave. Because I am focusing on Tech razors this month, however, for today and the rest of the week, I will be using Tech razors which would have been used by the troops during WWII.
First up is a Canadian pre-War Tech in a Khaki Set.

I picked this up a few months ago. The blade bank is not original to the set but was a generous PIF from Fuzzy. The case is well worn, but the razor is in beautiful condition. There are no marks to indicate its original owner so I don't know if he was a hero at Anzio or spent his service in a mess hall in Halifax. Either way, whoever you were, thank you for your service.
As for the shave itself, like some others of you, I opted for a traditional boar brush and a traditional soap, Williams. All told, it was a smooth, effortless shave, near-enough BBS with no issues. TBH, I'm not sure I get what makes the Canadian Tech different from its US counterpart. Some say that it is more aggressive though I'd go with "efficient" instead. It does seem to have a certain additional solidity, though I am a loss as to where that comes from. An excellent tool nonetheless.
I was initially concerned that it might be inappropriate to use a Canadian WWII razor to honor this day. After yesterday's national moment of disgrace, however, I realize that I had nothing to worry about. Our Canadian neighbors are far more gracious than we ourselves can be at times.
Thank you to all you who have served and/or serve now.
