Tried my first Resin pours last week. Made a few different ‘forms’ to pour into. Tried a Coral Metallic powder with it. I split a piece of Maple and placed it in a form so that the resin would fill in the gaps. Wasn’t sure what it would look like after turning, but here it is- The other side is only wood showing. I have a few other finished blanks to play with when I get a chance as I have some different ideas what to try after this one.
Yes, I used some polishing compound on the resin to get any scratches out, and then did a few thin marine grade urethane coats. The resin doesn’t need it obviously, but it is how I finish wood handles usually.
I have been pointed in this direction for awhile. Lately, I have been using only synthetic knot brushes and decided I may off-load all my natural bristle brushes and find a few one-of-a-kind handles for some new synthetic knots. I really like this hybrid style - @Bobcat uses one for his OTD photos. This is the blank I found; it is on its way to @Jayaruh for a consult and,I hope, a turning! Tom
Wow, that turned out very nice indeed. Thanks to @TADIII I am about to gain some experience turning a resin/wood handle.
