I found this site http://www.razorandbrush.com/indexbarbieria.html and they have some very interesting razor blades on it. Found the web address on another forum, but I've never heard of some of these blades.

Could be interesting to try them out. Anyone else have comments on these?

I've been to the same site. I am also curious but am going to ask around, maybe people I know can tell me about some of them...

The site also has some UK Wilkinson's that should be available in the future. I would really be interested in those.............

I've tried Dorco blades before (a case of if the shoe fits I suppose) and they're alright. I'd put them on the same level as the Derby blades in terms of sharpness, although they're not quite as smooth. Worth trying if you can get them at a reasonable price.
I haven't tried Treet DE blades, but I have tried their Single Edge blades and they took chunks out of my face when loaded into a Micromatic.
    Regards,
    Alex

Giovanni has been working on his site for some time. It's good to see it up and running. I received one of his Gillette travel bags as a gift and he included samples of soaps, Dorco and Treet blades. I'll be trying them soon and let you know how they are. (IMO) :D

A Russian chap I know told me that he was using the Sputniks ten years ago as a student because they were so cheap. He said they weren't very good, but then he said they were only good for ten shaves. He also seemed to think they were mainly used by tailors for cutting fabric.

Of course, that was ten years ago. Maybe the technology has improved since then...

So far, I have tried Treet, Dorco, & Sputnik

They were all great, although I had some trouble with the Sputnik; but have only used it once......... and admittedly I believe the lather to have been sub-par when I used the Sputnik.

Have you tried the "Keramik" as well?

Yes that is the Astra that I have. No I have not tried the Keramik.

As it was it was a sheer fluke that I stumbled across the Superior. I was sitting in the barbers chair just checking out what products he was using.
Then I clapped eyes on the Astra blades, and he could tell by my surprise and over zealous enthusiasm that I wanted to try one. You see I did not even know they were available here in Oz.

Anyway he gave me one as I was walking out the door, and said here try this let us know how you go.

Well I have been using it ever since.

    Cheers

I had tried the Sputnik and I believe they are exzellent. Unfortunately I have none left :(
And in former Soviet States they are really very very cheap.

So far I've found several keepers in the RazorandBrush sampler pack:

Treet Platinum: uncommonly good (for me)---like Feather but smoother
    Astra Super Platinum: extremely good
German Wilkinson Sword: I like these better than the UK WS. YMMV.
Sputnik: Not bad at all. I got 4 good shaves, and then changed the blade before it went dull. Perhaps I should have tried a few more.

And I'm still working through the pack. Of course, the blades above may not work for you---blades are VERY much YMMV---but I think if you get the large sampler you'll find some good surprises therein.

And the sampler pack in the UK is here.

Geez, just got 200 Derbz + 200 Israeli's & couldn't help myself...I clik'd Leisureguys "larger sampler" pack above, lusting, just lusting to try all those new brands.

Pricewise per blade a very sweet deal but I couldn't figure out how to "Order & Pay" except thru a complicated series of emails or faxes. Did I miss an "Easy Order PayPal" button in there somewhere? If not, guess I just saved some cashola but I really do WANNA try some of those blades....

No you did not miss any magic button or anything. For whatever reason Gio chooses to do business this way. For me though it does seem to add the personnel touch, and you only have to send credit card details once only.
Really Giovanni is a pleasure to deal with.

    Cheers

PS I finally retired the Astra Superior today after day 19 of shaves. I was starting to get a breakout at the end of the day, and figured that maybe a less than sharp blade may have been contributing.

Great to see that the DE blade market is still alive and well! Mind you all that means is that I will just have to stockpile more brands....just in case;)

    1) Ask for order total with shipping

    2) Send money to him via paypal

    3) Rinse, lather, repeat

    :D

And I bet you find in the large sampler pack some blades that you love. Well worth trying. And it feels good to move beyond the Big Five.

Think of the bragging rights you have over those poor slobs who haven't tried these blades yet. :D
