I don't slide often, but I get closer on my neck by shaving in angular strokes with plenty of skin stretching. That's ATG for my beard pattern, and it works better than shaving north to south. Most days, I shave ATG on both passes of my neck. That's about all I can take without experiencing some irritation.

Williams does get a bad rap, and yeah, I get it. But, it's a very serviceable soap. Like you said, it's slick - and the post shave feel is fairly good too. I found that if you treat it like soap, it acts like soap. There isn't any need for all the "witchcraft" methods that folks do on YouTube, etc. It probably won't ever crack the top five (or even the top ten) favorite soaps for me, but I do enjoy busting it out every so often.
Good luck getting your soap inventory down. Seems to be a common theme around these parts.

I can't wait to buy and try different soaps or creams, and then I sometimes get frustrated because they seem to pile up and/or last so long...thus, keeping me from my next purchase. If I had to explain this to someone on the outside, it would feel both silly and embarrassing. I think I'll be happy with the variety I'd see from about 5 top performers, and I wouldn't be frustrated by the pile of soap containers in storage. I don't consider myself a true minimalist, but I seem to lean in that direction.

If I just wanted a good shave and didn't care about variety or scent, I'd stick with a pump of KMF. It's really hard to beat, considering availability, ease of use, cost, and performance. It ranks low on the coolness scale, however, as it is made in a highly automated factory operated by a corporate conglomerate and not in a converted milk house adjoining a 400-year-old villa located on the French Riviera. Oh, might I actually have hipster leanings too?

Well, since I'm an engineer and a Kentuckian, let's put it all together. I score a 7.796 on a 1-to-10 scale as a hillbilly minimalist hipster. Self-introspection is good thing...now on to the Cyber Monday sales!

Thank you. No I believe it would be a faux frameback. It wasn’t a hard razor to hone, it has almost no hone wear on the spine. Uneven spinewear is generally one of the big culprits that make honing difficult. The curvature of the spine also can make for difficult honing, but once you get the hang of the different types of stroke to use for issues or shapes of the spine you can hone almost any razor.

The C.O. Bigelow (Proraso) was one of my favorites and makes a great travel soap.

Any skinny jeans and/or man bun in your future, Charlie?

Thanks for the info, Paul! I wondered if the angle would change and make honing more challenging. I haven't made the plunge into the dark side yet. I restored one straight (still need to send it out to get it honed), and in the pile of straights I got at an auction, there's a frame back in there. I need to look at it again and see if it's worth the time. Honing is off the table initially until I determine if the dark side is for me. If it's something I enjoy, and can get past my laziness, then maybe I'll give honing a whirl. Time will tell...

I love Shakespeare. McBeth and Hamlet are my favorites. When we first started dating, my wife took me to a production called McHomer. It was part of the cast from the Simpsons doing live dialogue with a cartoon screen showing the Simpson’s characters. It was awesome.

My youngest is named Juliet, and that is 100% Shakespeare. I got a tattoo for her that has all the elements of the speech Romeo gave when he first saw Juliet.
