Charlie, the scent is terrific. Perhaps Fine Italian Citrus? Asylum Shave Works just re-released their Colonia, available exclusively at Bullgoose Shaving. This one interests me less as it is not a tallow-based soap and is pretty pricey.
Thank you, Joseph. I'll certainly check out the scent the next time we're out shopping and the Colonia soap. Like you, though, I tend to prefer tallow-based soaps.
Nice comparison, sir. If I'm going to do a Colonia dupe, It's going to be Oleo Soapworks' "Shiloh" all the way.
I have both the original AdP and (older version), I agree with Joseph, they nailed the scent. The preformance is similar too, good but not top tier. Of all my soaps this is my favorite scent, I find the AdP scent is stronger.
Hello all on this fine Tuesday! We I'm still focused on the Muhle r41 with a good nights rest and all quiet here. I had one issue with a small pimple on the neck that made it till pass 3. But no bid deal, just a small thing that stopped bleeding before I got finished with pass 2 on the head shave. This morning was a quick jont around the park, quite easy and dare I say, mild. You guys got it right when you recomended, focus on one tool at a time. I will say that this razor cuts as close as my MMOC, once you get the hang of it. The neck might be an issue for the Wednesday shave if it gets in the way again, but we'll see. I started to use my left hand on the left side, right hand for the right side just to make it more interesting. So... R41 with a new Feather blade, I use the blade once then bin the blade. PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum soap Omego Badger brush Nivea post shave 3 passes on the face 2 passes on the head Still going strong Thanks Enjoy tp
Wednesday Shave and still not repeating.... well I checked and there was a slip up earlier in the month. Today's star is a Koraat 14 2.0 double bellied hollow. My woman arrived this morning mid shave so she ran it do say hi, she 'yikes, you are shaving with a knife again!' This time she stayed and watched for a pass and then went to make coffee. She must have been tired from the red-eye flight as there were no smart alec comments. Great photo and update, Terry. I have a little spot under my nose that I keep opening up with the Feather in my R41. If I do a straight WTG first pass (like the book says), I get fewer to no weepers during the shave. Using my Russian blades, I can sneak in more XTG and ATG strokes on the first pass. The Feather blades don't like this so much...at least with my current technique. I have really gotten used to the smoothness of the Russian blades, and shaving with a Feather blade seems to take a little more attention to detail.
When you shave with the knife, Keith, your woman says no, no, no...but she means yes, yes, yes. She's gotta be fond of your A++++ smooth mug. Crowne and Crane again, huh? Says the guy who will be using Soap Commander Love for the next 6 months!
Thanks guys. Doug, the bog oak looks even better in person but the DO1 knot took a long time to break in. Charlie, she has adjusted better the shaving with a knife as I am still alive. I am trying to reduce my soap inventory and this puck is proving to be very stubborn. For variety i use something different on the weekend.
