Good morning all... Ok... been promising to post some of these knives and things and get back in the game for a while now.
Decadent December sounds just about right to me. How's this for a start... Some of the favorite things I've used this morning... Shaved and then cooked...
I'm still using my Fatboy face / Black Beauty neck routine and have not deviated from Astra blades .... but I'm getting the itch.. I have a Merkur slant I've been meaning to have a go with... Just about getting confident enough to give it a try.
Now for the good stuff...
Vespers, Vespers, Vespers... the lather this soap produces comes out like slippery marshmallow fluffernutter with almost no effort on my part. It accepts water willingly but doesn't seem to need as much as other B&M bases I've used. The scent is wonderful. All of my ladies love it --- even the one with 4 legs a wet nose and shaggy tail!
Slick glide and plenty of residual slickness. When Will makes more stuff in the Excelsior base I'm a buyer.
As promised for a couple of months now here's another one of my (decadent?) knives.
This is a pure custom 270 MM Ktip gyuto Tim Johnson of Blackstone Knife made for me. It's laser thin at 2.5 mm at the thickest part of the spine. Steel is san mai 52100 clad in 400 SS. It's about 50mm tall at the heel and dead flat for 95 mm from heel forward. Its tip is raised 12 mm from the board.
The handle is a dove-wa construction. Scales are C.I.T.E.S. compliant old stock Honduran Rosewood. Frame is 3600 year old Ukranian Bog Oak. Spacers are musk ox horn legally and ethically sourced through Mark Knapp of Fairbanks, Alaska. The saya is Brazillian Kingwood from Greenberg Woods -- also C.I.T.E.S. compliant.
The board on which the shot was taken by the way is Amori Hiba -- responsibly cultivated and sourced.
My start to a Decadent December. I'm not given to saying things like this is the best stuff I've ever shaved with or this is the best knife I've ever used... But you know what? I'm having a very hard time finding reasons not to..
