  1. i agree,my #15 rhodium aristocrat is a big dollar number for me,and certainly not toggle expensive, but its not my daily driver..i get my greatest shaves from the humblest equipment ...package deal i say..
  2. Great photo and shave Jim. It might not have been you but very well could have been the Gem blade. I palm strop the Gem blades before the first use. You would be shocked at the number that have a rough side.

  3. Decadent lathers are a great goal. Way to go on starting out month on a high note.
  4. Just beautiful Bruce. The brush and razor are meant for each other.
  5. Excellent photo and recap Jim. The brush just looks gorgeous.
  6. Thank you, Clint. I didn't know about palm stropping Gem blades. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

Moving a little slow this morning. I am too old to over indulge. At any rate the shave today was excellent. I took @jtspartan idea and went with a 2 pass shave using the 3 dot plate. I did mix things up and went with the first pass ATG followed by XTG. I decided to do a third pass on my lower right neck and caught the baby with ease. A perfect drama free shave with no irritation or weepers worthy of the Epic title. A splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver and I am ready for a relaxing day. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
  8. You will see many folks start with a mild Gem razor until the blade smoothes out. I just decided to use a shortcut to get to that point.
  9. I get so frustrated when a particular soap I just used flattens right back to show I made no progress! That happened with the Chiseled Face this morning.(Wet Shaviong Products soap is guilty of this, too). However Stoylin always shows the opposite-that it has been indeed worked over. Spice, which I haven't used since early this year, gives the appearance that I just used it yesterday. I bet all Stoylins are like that. It's all in the ingredients, right?

    Razor: Schick B1 Repeater
    Blade: Schick Proline B
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Stirling Sheep
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

No shave yesterday; DW was not feeling well. We ended up going to the ER and she was admitted with Pneumonia.

Today was a quick shave with one of my two B1 Repeaters, always a favorite razor. Cost-wise, they seem to be the sweet spot if you want to get in on them. A models aren't that common on the 'Bay and C models seem to pull big numbers. I haven't seen enough B2 models to know where they sit.

I apparently hit a sweet spot on hydration of the Sheep today as it suddenly became immensely slicker than I had been seeing previously.

All in all, a great shave.
  12. Great shave and gorgeous picture, Clint. I loaded a Proline with the 3 dot plate into my Supply for when it comes up in the rotation.

  14. :thanks:
  15. Thanks Danny! :happy088:
  16. I don't know where the Sabre L2 falls into the mild to aggressive scale as it's my only Gem razor. Hand stropping will be a habit from here on out. Thanks again for the tip.

  19. For our newer 30DC Members, what follows is referred to as a @Shave Fu style post. He was a Member of The 30 DC for a while and left us with quite an impression, along with the Massive Multi-Quote style we named in his honor.

Do you know how I got my CT? Saying something that I later regretted. Not so in this case. That is a very handsome brush Jason @jtspartan crafted! Glad you like the asterisk!

I'm a no collar guy. Carpenter by trade, mostly retired now. The lesson I learned this month last year - Decadent Lather every shave. Even top of the line more expensive soaps are cheap per use. Use more product and enjoy your best lather every shave.

@ ordinaryshaver - I haven't had the pleasure of getting up close with a Hussy (the injector, that is). Schick type H? Can you compare it's function to other injectors?
Someone else mentioned being on a First Name Basis here in 30DC Land. What's yours? I'm Rick.

John, hope your DW is doing OK. Keep us informed. You got the home fires covered?

Paul - that's my favorite part of hard puck soaps! I use them but don't see any reduction in size. I knew when Adam @Drygulch suggested his competition I wasn't going to play.
That's my current AD - matching or finding the right AS for my favorite soaps.

Thank you Clint! Even if I get a little irritation or blood on steel they're all great shave these days.
  20. Praying for a full and speedy recovery.
