  1. Well I picked the Royal Oudh based on essential oils between the AS and the Chypre Vert. Chypre Vert has: Bergamot, mandarin, galbanum, peach, gardenia. lily of the valley, hyacinth, rose, jasmine, iris root, patchouli, oakmoss, amber and sandalwood and Royal Oudh has lemon, pink berry and bergamot. The middle notes consist of cedar, galbanum and angelic root. Base notes are Regal Indian oud, sandalwood and Tonkin musk. So both have Bergamot, Galbanum, Sandalwood. Not really a close match and thinking about it now Verspers with lavender, vanilla, cedar, and the elegant musk Exaltolid, cranberry, cardamom, balsam, and a fern accord for a spicy -forest character. Patchouli, rose, sandalwood, and bergamot, but I used Verspers yesterday so didn't want to use it back to back. Or even WhollyKaw King of Oud with Bergamot, Lemon, Clary Sage, Rose, Aldehydes and Pink Pepper Middle notes: Angelica, Rosewood, Galbanum, Agarwood or Oud, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli and Amber would have been a closer match.

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette 195 (Fatboy) (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Today's shave features a special edition tutorial on lathering Mitchell's Wool Fat. Step 1. Wet the puck while you get ready to shave. Step 2. Make sure you use a SynBad knot from APShaveCo. Step 3. Soak the brush for about 30 seconds, shake well. Step 4. Load the brush like you think you'll never get to use it again. Step 5. Apply the slickest lather I've ever made with MWF for both passes, then squeeze out enough lather left in the brush to wash both cars, the dishes, and take a shower.

With the Fatboy and Sharp Star working on that lather the baby is easy to get in two passes and just a bit of touch up. Alum was quiet, my face feels great from the lanolin and all's well at Cartel HQ. Speaking of HQ - party is here this weekend. My wife leaves tomorrow to go to Tennessee for about a week to hang out with some friends, leaving me here to hold down the fort. I figure as long as we get everyone back home by the end of the weekend I can repair the damage before she gets home. Enjoy your Thursday!

  3. I agree Brad. Great soap. Dr Jon's is kind of a sleeper. As with you, I really like the performance and scent.

  14. Growing the beard again. In clear violation of conventional beard fashion, I keep smooth the neck from the top of the Adam's apple down as well as the cheeks. So today's shave,

    ● Old Type with matching 3 hole blade, mint but lightly stropped anyway

    ●KMF 4 in 1, brushed on

2 pass BBS with no issues. Amazing what a 100 year old blade can still do, it was quite sharp. This will also give me an opportunity to test this blade out with my Aloxite hone to see how much mileage I can get out of it.

    Tabac Shaving Soap
    Jayaruh #18
    Gillette Slim
    Gillette Super Blue Blade X3

    Tabac AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Tabac Shaving Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #18 brush. I did two passes with the Gillette Slim Razor with a Gillette Super Blue Blade X3 blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
