    That Ali's Blade... just beautiful.
Side note... picked up Civet soap off the bay - the scent blew me away. Wonderful!

  3. Another fine shave with my Grandpa’s Never Fail. :happy036: Sharp, close shave that made short work of the stubble. I really like this razor. Initially I was lukewarm about this razor. Then I started to experiment with refreshing it with various stones and pastes and now it’s in my top tier. :chores016:

  5. Thank you, I picked it up used if you noticed there is a smudge in the center of the blade which got me a large discount. I highly recommend the civet perfume, Zoologist is making some nice stuff.

    Eureka Shaving Soap

    H. Böker 5/8
Aqua Velva 5 in 1 AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Eureka Shaving Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #18 brush. I did two passes with the H. Böker 5/8 Razor and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Aqua Velva 5 in 1 AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

From what I understand, France was a strong export market for Heljestrand. This is part of a multi-day (I assume 7 day) set.

Amazing that the grinders could engineer a razor that only works one day a week. :)
I also am pretty sure the remaining 6 days of razors no longer work without this one... so I’m hoping their owner will read this and send them my way.
    Enjoy your shave!

    Howdy Gentlemen,

The holidays have kept me busy either eating or excercising to get over the over eating lol, so I haven’t posted much.

The Filly 14 edge test is done, I got 63 shaves out of that edge, and like the Cape 1000 before it (58 shaves), it still shaved fairly well but it had just lost enough smoothness that I decided to re-edge it on a nice piece of jnat karasu. I was expecting a little more from it, but it’s interesting to note that both razors returned around 55 smooth shaves.

The other interesting observation is that both razors lost their smoothness in just a few shaves, say 3-5 at the end of the ‘run’. Shave 45 wasn’t that much different from 25, but the difference in the last half dozen shaves was quite a lot. They stayed stable for a long stretch, but when they went, they went pretty quickly.

So here the ol’ gal is, re-honed and super smooth. Soap was Martin de Candre fougere lathered with a Simpsons 57, and Thayers Rose Petal tonic finished it up. So maybe now I can post some different razors!

    Cheers, Steve

  14. Figured I’d follow Mike’s lead and go with a smaller Heljestrand... the MK8. Slightly heavier grind, I’d call it about a 1/2 hollow. Made for a silent but fun shave.
