So I went to Merz Apothecary in Chicago a couple of days ago. They had a good selection of wet shaving gear. Great opportunity to smell some items and I almost treat it as smelling items to rule them out. I ruled out all the new Clubman splashes (Whiskey Woods, etc) as well as some Stirling scents (Gatlinburg, Stirling Spice). I really enjoy that opportunity.
I did purchase a few items. Oleo New City soap and splash, which is a raspberry and leather scent as well as a Speick shave stick. Fairly inexpensive all around. THey had Windy City Barbershop, El Caballero, and a couple of other Oleo scents, but I opted for New City. Caballero smelled pretty good.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun to go there again. I can't imagine going somewhere like Pasteur's in New York City. I'd be there all day!

My wife and I love good food. In fact our travel destinations and best experiences have been centered around food for the most part. We had some incredible eats on our trip.
Dinner at Girl and the Goat
Dinner at Topolobampo (7-course menu with wine pairings...unbelievable)
Dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse (amazing)
Dinner at Little Goat Diner (was good but probably wouldn't return)
Lunch at Barrio (Katsuji's restaurant - he has been on Top Chef twice)
Lunch at Gino's East Pizza (not refined, but damn good)
Lunch at Aloha Poke in Revival Food Hall
Lunch at Purple Pig (Mediterranean-influenced small plates....incredible)
Samples and bought some provisions at Eataly
Needless to say my pants were a hair tighter on the way home yesterday. But it's worth it. The holidays are tough to control as far as eating so I'll have to dial it back after the New Year.
Fun getaway. Now I have to steel myself for a family Christmas gathering at our house. This is my father-in-law's side of the family. They're interesting......
Great shaves, everyone!
