1. My mother arrived in town, for the Christmas Holiday, and brought 14 kitchen knives to sharpen, they hadn't been sharpened in 20-30 years. It's going to be a long day.

  8. I used glue & pipe insulation foam to turn a file box into a sewing machine case. I suppose it would have been manlier if I could have made it work with duct tape, but I just couldn't get the pipe foam to stay put that way.

  11. Observed a gigantic toad leisurely jump across my patio. Chose not to kill it, though that's recommended as they're invasive and voracious. You owe me, toad.

  13. Chopped down a tree with an ax. Well, ok, not a whole tree, just the major limbs, but I did it with a hachet. I'll tackle the trunks (plural) with a chainsaw maybe next weekend.

  14. By the way, in researching said toad I came by many articles from here in Florida about the humane way to essentially euthanize these toads yourself. It's simple and seems effective, and also sounds like the toad would go out happy. Google at your leisure.
  15. Either way, he's gonna ... croak ... sooner or later.
  16. I like how they hop along.

  17. Florida eh? Well I hope the toads aren't as big as the mosquitos!
Is this one of these poisonous toads I read about?

  19. Letting Nature take it's course, or assisted demise. They aren't indigenous, therefore intrusive. If you'd have stomped it that would have been boyish.

I intervened between a 7 year old grand daughter, the young female cat that's decided it lives with us, and a fat gray mouse. When I saw the cat playing with the still alive mouse I called the three grandkids outside to see what a good cat we allow to live with us. Younger Jeremiah wasn't interested and went back inside. Of the twins, Melody watched for a few minutes and lost interest. Her non-identical 7 year old sister Jenisis has a "thing" for critters. She wanted to save the rodent. After explaining that the reason the cat is allowed to live with us is because cats do hunt and kill mice, she sat quietly watching for a good twenty minutes. When the cat had caught and released the mouse multiple times, the mouse tried playing dead. It's a young cat so it got bored when the play portion of the game ended. "Squeak / Crunch" went the cranium. Granddaughter had enough then, too. Now they understand why we only feed the cat enough to keep it coming back. It has a job. Pest control.

Tough lesson for them to learn, glad I was there to help teach it.

  20. Don't know how manly it is but just pulled off a 16-hour drive with only a few stops.

I do NOT want to do that again.
