Am I supposed to put my lather in it ? The lather would just fall down through those holes in it if I did that.

That may not be a scuttle. Perhaps post a pic of the top illustrating the holes you mention. Is it a vase? Here's a pic of my scuttle. Hot water resides in the lower chamber and the lather is made in the top bowl and stays warm. Like an inner liner.
This morning’s shave was brought to you by the Sesame Street “One of these things doesn’t belong” game along with “Where’s Waldo’s Shavette”. Because of my conformist nature I followed the other lemmings over the cliff and went with the shavette this morning... until I didn’t. Not for the reasons you’d think, though. After my 3rd pass with the shavette and no significant stubble removal, I had three choices: 1.Ponder if the random blade sitting in the shavette for 6 months might be at fault, 2. Ponder if the alignment (or lack thereof) of said blade might be at fault, or 3. skip the pondering and shave. Cue the Karve FTW.
Ok, here we go... Start by filling up the lower reservoir with hot water. Next, load your brush with your shaving soap. Create your lather in the upper portion of the scuttle. Keep in mind that some soaps are sensitive to extreme heat, so if your created lather breaks down, you might have to use a slightly less hot water. Think of the lower portion of your scuttle as a double boiler.
