  8. Friday!!!

This razor came with a nice edge but I prefer a crisper edge and touched it up with a Shapton glass 16k and quick run through the pasted strops and now the edge is nice and crisp. After a success, this troublesome soap gave me problems again. The lather was back doing a quick disappearing act so I treated it like a mug soap loading more soap between each pass and it was acceptable.

  11. Over 700 messages, and it's only the 3rd??
Well I got thru reading them all, I think, but no time to reply.
Many great great shaves going on here so, way to go!
I'm in the beginning of my open blade focus and time is short but still doing my 1st pass with my straight and 2cd and 3rd pass with my Fatip Retro.
The head shave is a 3 pass with the Retro.

No blood, just a red spot on the neck that goes away in a few minutes.
But good shaves are happening here.

Now that using a butter knife for straight razor practice is out, here is a picture of my practice razor. I just put some tape on the blade so not to cut myself and then practice holding and using it with either hand.
I thought tje ideal to be over the top, most of my ideals take time to grow on people, so I kept quiet. Seems that's the way to do it, so here is a picture of my practice blade. 20190103_203945.jpg
This razor needs a lot of TLC, so at the very least I can get some use out of it with very little blade work.
I'm learning to hold it and to avoid bumping the scales into things. So far, it has seemed to work getting my arm positions right too. Don't know if anyone else has done this before, but there it is.
Another silly ideal from the mind of @Terry ;)
    Enjoy

  15. @Douglas Carey , Happy Birthday! Hope you didn't get the cold and the snow like down here . Enjoy your special day!

  16. Jluc, do not get discouraged about using a shavette. It takes time to be proficient. The more you experience shaving with your shavette, the better your results.

  17. Thank you Adam! I don't know if I will give this soap another shot, I have way too many other soaps that just work and better.

  18. @Douglas Carey, happy birthday! For your birthday, I shaved with:

    CJB Kamisori (thanks, @Keithmax!)
    Williams
    30DC Brush
    Alum
    Fine Platinum AS

This CJB is an order of magnitude easier to shave with than the Feather, as @Keithmax generously helped me discover a while back. I just love this thing. Smooth sailing, quiet alum, no blood, and the Williams did just fine again. I ain't mad at it. I'm thinking about using it every weekday this month and changing things up on the weekends.

  19. January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 3

Razor - Feather DX Artist Club (pain stick)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Another night with the Feather DX as I work to get it fully under control and working to its peak. Again, I'm impressed with this razor and my initial impression after three total shaves with it is.....it may be the best of the pain sticks. I stayed with the Jeeves Bay Rum tonight because, obviously, it's Jeeves January and this is my only Jeeves soap (not counting Blood on Steel). Besides, comparing pain sticks and trialing blades which I will also do this month require more of a rule approach. So, Jeeves Bay Rum it is. The brush was the Canuck and the SynBad fan was again flawless. More than enough lather to work through some touch up passes to get down to a very nice DFS. No blood and the alum was quiet. Very nice shave.

Tomorrow night I'll switch to the Feather SS and see if I can tell the difference. I'm withholding judgement until I actually shave with it.

Enjoy your Friday and here comes the weekend!

  20. When you say "easier to shave with than the Feather" I assume you mean the Feather SS?
