Hey Scott, I assume that you already know this but it looks like the scales on the Deutsch are ‘kicking off’ (cell rot) based on the corrosion pattern on the blade. The green Deutsch sclaes were particularly bad about that. I have a once-nice 6/8 Geneva with the same issue, faux tortoise scales. Keep them away from other razors. Cheers, Steve
King Pelican 14 this morning, sopa was Durance l’Homme lathered with a Simpsons 58 Manchurian. A splash of Harris Pink finished things up. Durance l’Homme has an unusual distinction, it’s been panned by multiple reviweers as the worst shaving soap in the history of wet shaving! So I had a Maggards order that I needed $6-7 for free shipping and they had the Durance refil for $12 - so I just had to try it. It is not only not bad, it’s quite good! Lathers easily, slick, and the lather is stable unlike the review comments. The fragrance is a light aquatic like AOS Ocean Kelp or a slightly downscale AdP Collezionne Barbiere. Bery pleasant! The only thing that I can think of is that they made a bad batch of soap and didn’t recall it - or maybe they did, I don’t think that there’s an official importer in the US. Cheers, Steve
I know. But I couldn't resist, for $15 or so. I plan on coating the inside of the scales, with epoxy, and see if that does anything.

How was the shave with that Martinez razor? I looked at his site, and he makes some beautiful razors. Too rich for my blood though. One day i might get lucky, and acquire one. You do have some very very nice razors in your collection, and i always enjoy seeing what you buy.
Saturday Straights' Shave Cold Water Wash LaToja Shaving Stick Jayaruh #330 Dbl Duck 5/8 Gillette Aristocrat 46-47 Gillette Silver Blue Pinaud Vanilla My prep was just a cold water rinse. The LaToja Shaving Stick face lathered well with the Jayaruh #330 brush. I did one pass with the Dbl Duck 5/8 Razor. Then in honor of King Gillette's birthday, I did a second pass with my Gillette Aristocrat with a Gillette Silver Blue blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Pinaud Vanilla AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Fancy razor day. Le Grelot 359 6/8 Lotus Spanish point Medaille d’Or Paris 1931 in ivory, one of a cased pair. MdC fougere was lathered with a Rooney 3/2 Heritage 3-band and D. R. Harris Pink finished things up. Great hollowground razors these old Le Grelots.
5/8 Grelot Lotus Tabac Thater boar Tabac AS Great shaving razor, I can only envy those 2 beauties posted above. As far as I'm concerned a boar and Tabac go together like peanut butter and jelly. Excellent shave this morning. Have a good one.
Thanks Scott, they’ve only been honed 3x I think, once by the original seller, once by mycarver who did the scales, and once by me just to put my own jnat edge on them. Cheers, Steve
