  1. I like your setup. I like your Ralf Aust Razor. I have two 6/8 Spanish points made by RA.
  2. Do you have the Blood on Steel soap in your den, Doug? I thought Jeeves had sold out of it, but I could be mistaken.
  3. I didn't get one at the time, but Randy was selling a set and I got it from him secondhand. More power toward my CT!

  4. I did, Jason. I just haven't used any of it yet.
  5. Perry,
Mine is from the previous company. I bought an additional tub when I thought they were going away. This is what I got from the owners when I emailed about Maximo Gomez a few weeks ago:

"The formula of the soap has changed. It is now a tallow and goat milk base. Easier to lather and leaves skin feeling softer. The scent remains the same, and the aftershave is the same scent as well.
I should have more product back in stock over the next few weeks. "

To be honest, I found the previous formula very easy to lather and the skin feel was good...

Here is what the new labels look like, so if you ever see it like this, it is the new company/formula:

Anything that says First Canadian Shave Soap Co. is automatically from the previous company. They had two bases, at least. Both my tubs say 'new formula' on them, and have Tallow, Lanolin and Silk in terms of animal product in them...that would be the New Formula, from the Old company. Hopefully I haven't given you a headache now.

  6. Thanks for the info! I'm with you in that the first formula is easy to lather and provides wonderful post-shave feel. If the new iteration is an improvement then it's definitely a top-notch soap!

  7. Well, they say it is anyway...I'm usually not a skeptical type, but the old stuff was really good!

  8. Great report and photo! I like that Ralf Aust razor you have, and the brush is beautiful. Who made it?

Lovely warm toned photo as usual and informative post. I am curious what that vintage blade will be like...

  14. I agree on the Blue, though I thought I had White. Subtle enabling & catching me mixing lines. Now I need Blue soap & White balm...

    For those interested in the 30 DC Meet Up Limited Edition soap and AS, Adam @Drygulch said this;

Limited Edition Soap and Splash set for the 2018 TSD Meet up announcement: Soap and Splash will be made by Bryon at Jeeves of Hudson Street. (@Jeeves of Hudson Street) It will be called Blood on Steel, and the scent profile includes top notes of Pepper and Cinnamon; Middle notes of Labdanum, Incense, Tobacco Leaf, and Osmanthus; Base notes of Musk, Iso E Super, Vetiver, Cedar, Vanilla, Nagarmotha. This is the first release of this scent, but it may be released later under a different name and label.

So what's Blood on Steel about? It was the official St. Louis meetup (and The Shave Den forum) soap, taking place on Saturday, July 14, 2018. The scent is a dupe of Parfums de Marley Herod - essentially an Oriental fragrance of wood and spices. The scent was launched in 2012 and the nose behind it is Olivier Pescheux. He's made a remarkable number of scents. While they weren't all rockstars, there are definitely some heavy hitters on the list.

That particular scent will set you back $150+ for a 4.2 ounce bottle. I've found Blood on Steel similar to a knock off of Dirty English for Men by Juicy, and my be similar to Gucci Pour Homme.

I've sent an e-mail to Stirling to see if the soap & AS is available under another name.

  15. Here is my setup for the month. I shaved off my beard so back to face lathering. The razor is a Standard Razor Co. Raw aluminum and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I'm going to use up this TSD soap(the label came off and it no longer has a scent, so I forget what it is other than real nice) The Rapira blades seem to last at least a week per blade, so shouldn't run out this month.

Oh, and I am NB 19, so I'm using it up![IMG]

Fine American Blend~~Morris & Forndran Finest~~1938 Gillette Senator~~Nacet~~YSL Rive Gauche
Good evening, my friends. Got a shave in this morning, but not until this evening, did I have time to write a commentary.
I am not pleased with the progress shaving with my left hand. It is awkward. I don't cut myself, don't even get weepers,
but there is something unfulfilling about the entire process.
Fine American Blend. Why on earth didn't;t he call it: Fine French Blend???
It is based upon Yves Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche Pour Homme.
Side note: I had a college fling with a gorgeous blond, who wore Rive Gauche...:sexe:
I'll leave it at that, but say, that the scent was more than intoxicating.
Fine soaps are better than average and reasonably priced. I only have the American Blend,
but am very interested in trying the Italian Citrus. We'll see...
My #1 brush is my M&F Finest Beehive. What a brush!!
This is the brush that made me forget about acquiring a Varlet Beehive...so magnificent is the knot.
I am fortunate to have it in my stable.
The Gillette Senator is not only beautiful, but it shaves like a dream.
I also can't believe that I am still shaving with the Gillette Nacet!!!
    Terrific blade.
All in all, great shaving experience.
Splashed on a healthy dose of the YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme and I smelled like a god.
