January 13th Razor: Blackland Vector Blade: Schick P-30 AC (4) Brush: PAA Green Ray Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated Soap: Proraso Green PAA Star Jelly unscented AS: Proraso Green Lozione Good morning! The shavette and I parted ways for this morning's shave. I was in the mood for an easy relaxing shave. Out came the Vector. Wonderful three pass shave, BBS, silent alum. Perfect shave! I'm not sure what to do for tomorrow's shave. The IBC will remain on the countertop ready to go should I decide to use it. Have a great Sunday, gentlemen! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I’ve heard the ladies dig Tabac, Keith! I mean, it’s no clubman, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
January Focus Mystic Water~~Semogue~~Portland 1905~~Tom Ford SR #2 This time I used the Portland, which was generously donated to the raffle again by @Paul76 I tried to create a more-hydrated lather with the Mystic Water. Holding the razor for a downward pass is fairly intuitive. It's the ATG pass that is baffling me. I simply cannot figure out how to hold the razor, without using my opposite hand. I guess that's ok... Two passes with the Portland and I wasn't even close to a DFS. I can hear the blade, but the results are not yet to my standards. I will be patient, understanding that this is going to take some serious practice. At least I can report that I had no cuts or nicks or irritation. I am also able to report that keeping the shallow angle isn't posing great difficulty. Now, I have never come around the chin and don't know when that'll occur. Nor have I ever shaved my upper lip. Ditto on the ETA of that. So you could say I am really only shaving the flatest parts of my face. Cleaned up the shave with the '56 Super-Speed and the now-binned Nacet blade. Tom Ford adorns my upper torso.
Keep trying and telling us about your progress. This off us who haven't made the plunge are interested. Herm
My first progress post for my focus. I have to say that keeping up with all the posts in this thread is a daunting task to say the least. If been using my 1958 (D3) Gillette Executive all month. Historically I've always used 5-6 or maybe 7 for the setting and had acceptable shaves. But, since the rest of you are using str8's or shavettes I thought I'd "kick it up a notch". I moved the setting to 8 and, much to my amazement, the shave was actually smoother and more comfortable while being closer at the same time. I'm thinking a slight change in blade angle happened with the higher setting, but I like it! Gonna give 9 a try soon! After all it can only get better, right? Herm
I am glad that we inspired you to kick it up a notch. You never will know your limits until you go beyond your comfort zone. As for me, I was also inspired to kick up my shavette use as well as exploring my new inserts with the corresponding appropriate blades. It showed me the full range of my Dovo shavette that I would not have ventured if it wasn't for this forum.
Wonderful shave and photo Jim. Love the green color. You'll have to remember this one for St Patrick's Day. You're making great progress. Congrats. Beautiful razor and photo. Bravo.

January 13, 2019 Karve E Plate Feather WDC-8 with Druida Manchurian Asylum Colonia Soap & Aftershave Since reading @jtspartan report on Colonia soap and aftershave, I decided to change out my normal Sunday MdC routine to give the new Colonia soap and aftershave a try this morning. The "Weapon Jr" loaded and lathered the soap with ease. Without overloading I enough lather for 5 passes. I really couldn't tell a difference in loading and lathering between the Colonia and my Felce 4.3. Three passes and touch ups along the jawline ended in a near perfect shave. I did place the razor against my face too hard twice and ended up with two minor nicks. Completely my fault. The Colonia aftershave is a perfect match in scent to the soap. I added 2 drops of Glycerin per oz to the aftershave. I do this with all my aftershaves. I didn't find the post shave feel drying. However, I don't think the post shave feel is up to the level of the Felce 4.3. I don't have the ADP Colonia so I can't comment on how the scent compares but I can say this scent is a winner. Even the wife commented positively on the scent. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Fantastic shave Amigo. Seems like we were both thinking along the same lines. The WDC brush and Karve razor are meant for each other.
Thank you, Clint. Most days I try to color coordinate my gear. Obsessive? Yup, most definitely. I tried to buy a beautiful Montalvo handle the other day to use on lavender shave days but someone out there beat me to the check out with it. Whoever it was they kept me on track of no purchases until my birthday. Well, kinda. I did pick up a tub of Proraso Red with some Amazon credits. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
