  1. I hear you Danny. If my body were a temple, I would be arrested for vandalism if not arson. I always went for the good time without thoughts of the long term consequences. Now my misspent youth is catching up with me.

  5. For myself and others that are "new-ish" to the hobby, sure - we're going to keep trying different hardware and software. Eventually, you'll see many folks start heading the other direction by thinning out the den and keeping only what they truly enjoy. That doesn't mean that a product or two won't get added here and there. For example, I have a handful of Gillette TTOs. They shave just fine, but I've found that I just don't enjoy using them as much as three-piece razors. Most likely, they're going to head out the door at some point (with exception a Slim that my friend at work gave me). Why keep using them when there are others that I like using better?

But as far as one razor shaving better than another - that's something that's preached in here quite often. With proper technique, the quality of the shave shouldn't ever change. It comes down more to preferences than anything else. What do you enjoy shaving with? That's really the bottom line.

When it comes to soaps, brushes, etc. - basically the same thing. There are more varying degrees of performance with soaps, and that's not even taking scents into consideration. There are many more I'd like to try. But, while I don't have any "losers", there are a number that will not get replaced when they're done. Not because they don't perform well, however it's because I have others that I find more enjoyable.

So, sure...I can see where Chris @SharptoothC is coming from. He's tried the Dovo, and found out he doesn't like it - he also knows what he does like. There are a number of ways to approach this hobby. Anything from minimalism to collector, and points in between. It's all about finding out what we enjoy and embracing the hobby however we choose.

You're on you way Joseph! Slow tentative strokes can make the razor seem like its dragging and pulling. My shave started out like that this morning.
Good report Joe! I hate it when a bad set down draws blood!

    Stirling Bay Rum PSB

Seeing all you guys playing with your open blades made me jealous. Its been quite a long time since I picked up a straight so most of the strokes on my first pass were a bit too tentative which resulted in a sensation of tugging. As the shave progressed my comfort level increased and my strokes became much more confident. Two passes for a SAS. This soap smells exactly like Florida Water. I could have finished with a splash of FW but I decided to try some of the Stirling Bay Rum PSB that I got in yesterday. Good enough pairing and the Bay Rum from Stirling is quite nice. Have a great day my friends!
