I've had friends say it's kind of creepy out here sometimes. We live out in the middle of nowhere...heavily wooded. The only sounds are natural. I find it comforting, actually. It's also built-in security. Our driveway is winding and meandering and there's a "trick" to navigating to get out. The only drawback is when my wife and I want to see the night sky, we either have to go for a drive or climb up on the roof. We have a metal roof and the 50' tower that holds our antenna is immediately adjacent to the roof, so it serves as an easy access ladder. In the Google Earth grab below, the white part is our metal roof. We like it secluded.

That Google Earth shot is great! Perfect way to live. Funny thought though is the picture reminds me of the Discovery Channel shows documenting lost tribes in the Amazon!

    January 19 - Blade Trials

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Winter is here. 18F degrees, winds around 30 out of the North - it's a cold night in the Lou. That's ok. It's warm inside where I am. Second shave with the Vi-John Super Platinum. Slim is dialed up to 6, the JR46 turned the Arko into luxury, and it was another great shave. I don't think "great" is an overstatement here. I did three passes without checking after each pass to see where I was. Just shaved. Lather, shave, rinse. Lather, shave, rinse. Lather, shave, rinse. Then see what I have. And what I have is a BBS shave with quiet alum and no issues at all. Smooth all the way and I can't complain at all about that one. Like its Super Stainless cousin, this blade isn't the sharpest but it gets the job done with ease. We'll see if the irritation rises up tomorrow night when we open it up, or if it shows any signs of age. Nice way to finish the day.

Another nice finish to the day was the packages on the step when I got home. One was a tub of Haverford from Stirling, the other was my Raffle prizes from TSD HQ @Queen of Blades . I'm a very happy camper. The classic Avon cologne (Tribute) in the piano decanter is a great addition based on my history and the razor I picked that I couldn't really see turned out to be an Ever Ready in fantastic condition. It's one I've never seen before and I'm still doing some looking on it. I'll post up more pictures and info on it later, probably in the SE forum. Nice way to come home.

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Jeeves of Hudson Street Shaving Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #327 boar brush. I did two passes with the Gem Jr. Bar lather catcher razor with an Original Gem Cutlery SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Stetson AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
