  5. I wish I knew, Gary. I could have picked up all the M-4 Slims you wanted. My mom would have been happy to stop at the drugstore on the way home from school. I was in the first grade. Back then, kids could buy razors, blades, and cigarettes with no problems.

  7. thanks charlie..i think we know more about vintage razors today than some did back in the day.. to some they were just a razor..

  8. I found them to be very different. With traditional grind you are supposed to shave with one hand as they are asymmetric. I need to use both hands to get the proper angle is some areas so the traditional kamisori was a flop for me and I got rid of them.

    January 19 - Blade Trials

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Winter is here. 18F degrees, winds around 30 out of the North - it's a cold night in the Lou. That's ok. It's warm inside where I am. Second shave with the Vi-John Super Platinum. Slim is dialed up to 6, the JR46 turned the Arko into luxury, and it was another great shave. I don't think "great" is an overstatement here. I did three passes without checking after each pass to see where I was. Just shaved. Lather, shave, rinse. Lather, shave, rinse. Lather, shave, rinse. Then see what I have. And what I have is a BBS shave with quiet alum and no issues at all. Smooth all the way and I can't complain at all about that one. Like its Super Stainless cousin, this blade isn't the sharpest but it gets the job done with ease. We'll see if the irritation rises up tomorrow night when we open it up, or if it shows any signs of age. Nice way to finish the day.

Another nice finish to the day was the packages on the step when I got home. One was a tub of Haverford from Stirling, the other was my Raffle prizes from TSD HQ @Queen of Blades . I'm a very happy camper. The classic Avon cologne (Tribute) in the piano decanter is a great addition based on my history and the razor I picked that I couldn't really see turned out to be an Ever Ready in fantastic condition. It's one I've never seen before and I'm still doing some looking on it. I'll post up more pictures and info on it later, probably in the SE forum. Nice way to come home.

  14. Shouldn't you get a 50% discount on milkshakes for being the Ice Cream Guy?! Let me know if you need help with that. I can send a couple of the guys down to "persuade" management there that they owe you at least that much. Have a good conference!

Great lather and decent results. First day with the MMOC in a while and 3 passes left me very smooth on the face, but not so much on the chin or lower neck with some sandpaper and two decent sized weepers. I look forward to getting this razor dialed in this week.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, all!

  20. That may have been me. :innocent
Shoot a blob into my bowl. Mush it down with a brush to deflate the propellant. Add enough water to give it a more traditional soap lather wetness. It's just a little fine tuning plus I get to enjoy playing with my other toys.

I thought I remembered someone else using one recently!
When the opportunity arose I jumped. Probably never see a real Mellon. I enjoyed my first shave with this one & can see where with a Rule or Focus it'll stay in my den. It's a a fine blade holder with a fierce look.

Like a Rule that never ends? The shaves could just keep getting better and better!
