Well folks, 10 days of growth and my beard is looking good. A shade or two more gray with some white mixed in. Couple of dark brown stragglers left.

Anyway, as I was just trimming my cheek areas and shaving my neck (just up to a bit below my jawline), I started using a Merkur 45 "bakelite" razor and Barbasol canned cream. Happened to see some BIC single blade disposable razors the other day and figured I'd give them a try. Might be good for travel if I keep the beard that long. A 12 pack was under $4.00.

I used one for a few days and it just wasn't cutting it. Had to keep going over the same areas multiple times resulting in some irritation. Tried whipping up some Proraso cream instead of the Barbasol yet had the same issue.

So...it looks like I'll always have 11 BIC single edge disposable razors in stock. :(

I have switched back to my trusty Fatip Grande loaded with a Nacet blade. Still using the Barbasol Aloe cream and the Proraso Green balm has done its job on my irritation. All is well. Lesson learned!

    Cream: Barbasol with aloe
    Razor: Fatip Grande
    Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
    Aftershave: Proraso Green balm

The Damaskeene is a really mild shaver for me, to mild in fact. I have trouble getting a good shave with it. Oh well, there are other razors and more days to shave. Now go enjoy your day folks.

Razor - Antique Gillette ABC "Empire" Razor circa 1908-1912 (fully restored/re-plated in rhodium by Razor Emporium)
    Blade - Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless *2nd shave
Razor Stand - ThinkGeek Executive Knight Pen Holder
Brush - London Cutlers Modified/Restored Antique Silver Synthetic-Boar Shave Brush circa 1890
Brush Stand - Jac Zagoory's Butterfly Pen Stand
Soap Mug - Antique Northwood Dandelion Amethyst Carnival Glass Mug circa 1912

***EDIT - 2 passes + cleanup. Weepers and irritation on my neck. This is by far the toughest razor to shave with that I own. Feedback-city when I splashed on the aftershave. I had to go with baby powder as my post-shave item of choice to dry the skin intead of moisturize it to avoid redness and rash. I got a BBS result, but yeah, it better be when it's this aggressive.

I decided to try the closed comb base on the Starling V2 and I wasn't initially excited. About half a pass in and I felt like the razor was pushing me to apply too much PRESSURE because of how light it is. So I stopped and swapped out the handle for the Razorock stainless steel mamba handle and removed the base... WOW what a shave. Completely transformed it. No extra pressure and very smooth the rest of the way. The alum was very quiet today and the wife was very happy too . Have a great MLK Day everyone! We are outside in the snow trying to make a snowman lol.

I'm loving That Darn Rob's fanchurian, I did a side-by-side with a friend's B5 Declaration and it's pretty comparable. Not bad for fifty bucks.

I got the brush handle from Levi of Prometheus Handcrafts, he's new to the game but has been putting out some awesome pieces .

Beautiful razor, Tim. These razors are notorious for blade alignment issues. Take care to make sure the blade is straight before you shave. Perhaps this will help.

Yeah, I try to align the blade the best I can. Seems like blades go dull on the edge more quickly with this razor than others and boy, is it aggressive. Seems like, if I use a blade that is too smooth.....tugging and if I use a blade that is too sharp.......ouch-too much skin taken off. A medium blade seems critical to get a decent shave, but the blade doesn't last. I just had the 2nd shave with the blade that did well on the first shave, but this 2nd shave had just a tad of tugging and really scraped the skin aggressively. This is one challenging shave.

Yep. It looks way better than it shaves. But I like a challenge. I've had a few solid shaves with this razor, so I know it's capable of a nice shave. I just have to raise my skill level with this razor.
