  1. These razors are aggressive, IF your angle is too steep. Really try to "ride the cap". I have great success with my 1908 Old Type using this practice. You will too. Good luck.

Another cheap razor challenge. I’m a glutton for punishment. Actually, the shave was rather comfy. No nics, cuts or irritation with todays shave. Pushing my luck? Maybe. Have a great evening and amazing shaves to all.... ;)

  12. January - Shavettes and Jeeves!

    January 21

    Razor - Parker SRX Shavette
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
Soap - Jeeves Blood On Steel LE
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

After several days of blade trials I decided to rejoin the focus for a few shaves. Well, I should say the theme. With all of the shavettes on display this month I've seen a number of you using the Parker SRX. I finally couldn't resist the enabling going on and ordered one. It's been burning a hole in my desk this past week. It came with 5 Shark blades in the box so I figured why not just use one. I'm not a huge fan of Sharks in a DE, though it's my wife's favorite blade. However, as we've learned, blade choice in a shavette isn't really an issue. With the shavette theme covered I needed Jeeves to make it 100%. Blood on Steel handles that, and of course, requires the 30DC LE brush. Did I have a problem with lather? Don't make me laugh.

The Parker is a really solid feeling razor, if a bit slick. Once I got it in the right grip, though, it balanced well and felt good. Obviously it's not a bad razor given how many people like it. The Shark felt smooth, as it should in a shavette, and I did three passes with no expectations of perfection. It wasn't a perfect shave but it was better than some I've had with shavettes. No blood, no issues at all. Out of curiosity I split the third pass between the Parker and the Luxor. The main difference is the way the holder on the Luxor covers the blade corners. I didn't have any problem with either and would recommend either as great shavettes to use. I'll stick with the shavette for another shave or two before taking on the next blade trial.

  15. Funny thing is, I have a 1907 Gold Old-Type and I'm able to shave perfectly with it. The ABC Old-Type is a 3-piece and shaves differently for me than my 2-piece Single-Ring Old-type (well, 3-piece when you count the pole the screw into the bottom). I will eventually try a full week shaving with the ABC razor and I hope repetition will be the best way to get used to it.
  16. Thank you.

Neumann is on the price side for their soaps, aftershaves and colognes and I bough mine when they had a flash sale over the years. I was on there site as well today to see if they had a sale with it being a holiday here in the States as I am interested in the Bay Rum but alas, no sale. They did have all aftershaves in stock but have to admit $30 for a bottle is pricey but agree shipping $19 shipping to Canada seems high unless you load up on a bunch of products as it is flat rate shipping to Canada. I have six WM Neumann shave soaps; four half pound soaps, one 8oz shave cream, 1 four once shave soap and two of the 4oz aftershaves. Will be using Neumann products for six days straight.
