The ER 1924 has always been a favorite of mine...I love the 1912, but prefer the ER's 1914 and 1924....also the first version of the Shovelhead, the ER 1907!

These are a great balance between aggresive and mild, definitely leaning on the aggressive side. But also veddy veddy smooth!

Another cool side-note..The ER 1924 predates the ER 1912 which started production when GEM released the Micro-matic, late 1929/30.

The head, the way it is designed also acts like a small reverb chamber, enriching the sound of chopping off whiskers. Making it one of the loudest safety razors...You can literally hear, each whisker being whacked....I love the audible feedback of this one!

I broke into my rotation to try this New Arrival, the cheapest modern offering that uses a Gem blade. Obviously it does not have the looks of some Vintage SE, nor does it share their ingenious design being basically a 3 piece Razor. I really wanted to see how it compared with the only Two modern Gem users that I have tried, the Sabre L1 & ATT SE-G. I felt the Razor was too light for me , so chose to use a S/S Handle with it.

I chose my favourite Soap/Brush combo that I use when trying out a new Razor , as they produce abundant lather. Initial strokes were cautious, and there was immediate blade feel with a little bit of drag from the Razor head. Considering that I was using a fresh blade the Shave was quite smooth, apart from around the chin where it felt harsh. The quality of the finish was not bad, not as good as I get with my Favourite Vintage SE Razor, but far superior to both the Sabre L1 & ATT SE-G , the former being too mild the latter till it was tweaked could not deliver a Shave.

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Tabac Shaving Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #340 badger brush. I did two passes with the TNNSER razor with a GEM Blue Star SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
