The mail man delivered an interesting tool today. The Phoenix Starling V2 Single Edge Safety Razor using a Gem Style blade. Ths V2 is made of a 7075 Aluminum making it lighter than most razors. The razor has 2 base plates, 1 top cap and a handle. The green plate is the open comb, the violet plate is the safety bar. I used the open comb (oc) and a new blade. The first pass was gental, mild, easy. From the very first stroke, I could tell that this razor was not what I am looking for. So the first pass was super mild, no way was I able to get the closeness I desire. Had to go for a second pass, I have the mindset that no matter the razor, you can get a great shave. The second pass was easy, light, and not close. Maybe a change of mind. This razor has one thing going for it, I'm not sure you could nick yourself, even if you tried.
The head shave was less than expected. While shaving the face, I noticed the razor head would drag if I lay the head flat against the skin. This was even more pronounced when I swiped it around the gord. Changing the lather did not help, thicker or thinner, no help. After about half way through, I stopped and got another razor. Just to much drag to keep the blade in proper alignment for shaving.
Lucky for me the mail man delivered another razor, a Gem G bar. So taking the blade out of the V2 installing it into the G bar and contiued the job.
The G bar was also mild but would slide around the skin like a razor should. Finishing the work, 2 passes on the head, nice but not close as normal on a 2 pass shave.
Disappointed, yea who wouldn't be?
I'll try out the G bar in the morning and try out the V2 another day when I have time to play.
All other things as they should be.
Have a nice evening.
Enjoy
