  1. Thanks Joe!
I have a few different razors here in my den. All kind and shape, size and age. Not a collector, I use them, some I haven't gotten to yet, but they'er in the cue. Junk, antique, and second hand stores are the best but I have bought some new ones. Got my G bar from ebay, the price wss right ( cheap ;) ) and the razor was in good condition.
Keeps me busy when I have a little down time and I shave every day anyway, have for years. So......

  2. Nooooo....really??? Nobody would've ever guessed that. :happy097:
  3. Thank you Joseph, you are correct!
But this one has an odd drag to it.
Might be I'm not using it right, but only time will tell. Most Gem style SEs work the same, but this is a new design.
Might have to do a focus on the V2.

  4. We fear no shavepocaltpse on the dark side...

First of all, welcome to the discussion @Droo78. Don’t let the Shenanigans fool you, there’s more shaving expertise in the room than you can imagine, so post results and ask questions as you go. The idea of eliminating variables from the shave in order to improve different elements of the shave is extremely effective, regardless of your skill level. A while back, I thought that since I was no longer a newbie that I was beyond the concept. Not so. This month I am doing a focus with a straight razor to improve from a DFS to hopefully a bbs on a couple of patches on my neck that are particularly pesky. Don’t get me wrong, I now get a very close shave, but until every shave is perfect (a virtually unattainable goal), a focus or rule is a very powerful method to improve. And there’s always room for shenanigans. Just try and steer clear of @wristwatchb and his imaginary world as long as possible;).

  5. I walked across but my shoulder made it hard to do straits and shavettes, so I limped back home. I would love to go open blade, but the arm is bucking me on it.
I like a 3 pass face and head shave too, but have went to 1 or 2 on the face and 1 on the gord to take it easy.
Yes, a poor excuse is better than none, that I know.
We'll see what the doc says when I get in to him.
So for now, I'm relegated to the safer, more forgiving side of shaving.

  6. "How could I use this thread for a focus on those razors so I could improve the shaves with them?"

You just started, welcome to the group! Lotsa knowledge here, just ask and some one will help.

  7. Today's shave
    Franken razor
    Parker blade
    Perfecto brush
Sterling electric sheep, 3rd day with this soap so tomorrow will be a different soap.
Alum, which hazel and beard oil post shave.

3 pass on my cheeks and 2 on the neck, the result was a damn fine shave. Alum was a little warm on my left cheek, but almost nothing on my neck just a little on the Adams Apple. [IMG]

  10. Tomorrow begins a two-day break from barbershop shave soaps. When all is done, it'll be 9 barbershop shave soap shaves in 11 days.
  11. Thank you all for the input. I will choose to focus this month on my single edge razors. I have enough of them to vary throughout the focus and I will stick to soaps that I know well. Looking forward to the discussions and being a part of this group!
  12. Now that’s a great take out meal.

  13. February 2nd
    Razor: Blackland Blackbird SB
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux (1)
    Brush: Montalvo badger/boar
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
    Soap: Stirling Orange Chill
    Stirling Orange Chill witch hazel
    PAA Star Jelly unscented
    AS: Stirling Orange Chill

Great shave to start the day! Three passes to BBS, light tickle from the alum on my neck.

Stirling Orange Chill today. I wasn't thinking on my last Stirling order, this should have been added. Simple straight forward fresh orange scent with just the right amount of menthol. Definitely be part of my next order.

Back to back days with mixed knots. After a month of synthetic brushes the scrub and backbone were welcome. I was noticing the Montalvo still has a bit of animal smell. I was surprised to see that this was only its twentieth use. Still some breaking in to do.

    Have a great weekend! [IMG]

  19. Just a quick recap of yesterday's shave...

I decided to eschew Fatboy Friday and go with the Schick L1 Injector and a Japanese Twin blade; soap was Der Vergulde Hand, which I hadn't used since sometime in early November. A great shave with no issues.

I'm probably going the "no theme" or else the "favorites" route this month. I do have an EverReady 1919, however, which came as part of a lot and is calling for me to give it a go.
