Well, my year+ no-buy came to an abrupt end as January came to a close. It wasn't intentional. I found a very nice Ever Ready SE razor for $12, and since Ever Ready was a name that was conspicuously absent in my den, I felt compelled to rescue it. Then, later in the day, I was patrolling my local TJ Maxx with my daughter and came across a single puck of Institute Karite Shea Shaving Soap and a single tube of Institute Karite Post Shave Balm. I've long been curious about these products, but not curious enough to spend up for them, and I have never seen them locally. I purchased them both for the very reasonable sum of $6. I just couldn't pass it up. And then I saw the Nivea Body Shave stick, and remembered some of you folks giving it a positive recommendation. Being a sucker for a good shave stick and seeing it for $3, I had to bite. So, my no-buy hiccup yielded: Ever Ready SE Razor, $12 Institute Karite Shea Shaving Soap, $3 Institute Karite Post Shave Balm, $3 Nivea Body Shave Stick, $3 And with that, I'm back on the wagon. Until the next screaming deal comes along. I'm very happy to say that the combo of the Ever Ready and the Institute Karite products is trying to unintentionally become a rule for me this month. They are all fantastic. The Ever Ready has jumped to the top of my stack of SE razors. It just works. Face shaves, head shaves - no nicks, no weepers, close shaves, little effort, and it looks darn good too. And the Institute Karite soap at $3 has to be one of the best deals in my den. It's a definite replace for me if and when it ever gets used up. It's a triple milled soap, and I expect to get quite a few uses out of it.
I'd say you did very well with those purchases, Chris! Congrats on the score - even if it did "violate" your NB.
Day 32. Three passes with the Dovo Best, and touched up with the Timor open coumb again. The brush here is a Vie Long 4102, mixed boar/horse. Probably only about half way broken in, but I'm really liking it. Excellent lather, and a nice cold menthol splash from WSP.
Parker SRX Astra S/P Thater Noble Otter software Today was the 31st shave with the Parker. When I ordered the razor, I pretty much expected to abandon it after a few shaves. I certainly didn’t think that I’d end up doing a full 30 day focus - let alone enjoy it. I can routinely crank out shaves with the Parker that rival ones using a DE or SE. Hey Charlie @wristwatchb Mr. Otter says “Hi”! Such delightful software the Noble Otter is. Combine that with the Thater....Oh my. There’s a good chance I’ll soldier on with the Parker for a bit - or at the very least, throw it in for a few shaves per week. I’m having trouble keeping up with this thread - my apologies for not commenting on all the great posts and photos. Have a great day, gents! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bruce, congrats on the progress with the Parker SRX! Your SOTD photos are just beautiful. Please tell Oswald the Otter that I'll see him on a couple of slices of bread after he comes out of the smoker. I'm in Kentucky, and we eat critters that look like that here. It would be noble of him to provide a meal for me.
Thank you, Charlie!! I noticed that you're still plugging away with the Parker as well, after your short run with the TracII. We're now tied with number of shaves on them. C'mon, Charlie...be nice to the poor little otter! He provides such luxurious shaves! To top it off, even when wearing a t-shirt, you can still smell like you're wearing a leather jacket.
Thanks, gentlemen. I don't feel too bad. I made it a full year. And a month into year two, which was more of a slow-down-and-replace-only intention. This scratched the itch, and I like it so much that it should keep scratching it for a while!
Those are good deals, Chris! I have the Nivea shaving stick and it works really well. Good, slick lather and smooth post shave. Thank you, Jim!
