I did some playing around with the Kampfe Star, reloading the blade to check Fuzzy's theory that I didn't have the blade seated right last night. I do believe he diagnosed it. That makes me feel a bit better about the disaster of a shave that followed, if only because it proves it wasn't only my lousy technique on the shave. However, my face is raw enough to day that the Star will have to wait a few days while I smooth things back out. So, I switched to one of my favorite combinations. I call it the "detente setup" because it's classic Russian steel with a classic American Gillette razor. And, since 500 Voskhods arrived to shore up my dwindling supply, the Voskhod was a given. (By dwindling, I mean I was under 500 actual Voskhods....panic time).
I chose Stirling Sheep to give me an extra slick and protective kick from the mutton tallow and used the LE brush to work up a lather worthy of a demo video. I only went two passes, and discovered that, yes, my neck is quite tender when it comes to a razor at the moment. Ended with a DFS and only used the Nivea to follow in order to keep things smooth and healing. A good shave, if I do say so myself.
I'll give it a couple of days before I go back to an SE razor, just to give my neck time to heal up a bit more. This setup, though, is definitely a favorite, and with the Stirling Sheep it's become even more of one. Have an awesome Thursday!
